I just got back from the drag strip and I am very discouraged and pissed at the same time. When everyone else seems to be getting better at the track with each time they go; I seem to be getting worse... My first time ever to the track (very first run) was a 14.2something. My average was a 14.3 and my best was a 14.0. The second time at the track, my average was a 14.5 and my best was a 14.3something. Now, my third time to the track, my average was a 14.6 and my best was a 14.4something. (The best by the way was my first run of the night) I feel like just giving up. I can't drive!! I know my car can do 13's if I could just drive better but all I know how to do is push the pedal to the floor. Shift at about 6000 rpms and put the pedal to the floor again. I don't know if my sucky times are because it is cold (about 40 degrees) and my stock tires are spinning badly in 1st and 2nd or what. I tried telling myself to feather the gas and the clutch but when the lights start, I just go back to stomping the gas until I can't press it anymore. Anyways, thanks for letting me ramble and blow off some steam.

Later,

Rich

if your 60 foot times are more than 2.2 or so seconds, that would explain alot....the trap speed tells all.

Don't feel bad. I ran a 15.22 my first time out, stock, (and that was my best run) :nonono:

Next time, pull the spare and jack out and put a spare as both front wheels (borrow a friend's spare to use). It's perfectly safe. Everyone at my track does it.

Try shifting at 5500, I've heard this helps some. Are you powershifting? If you're not worried about the tranny then you may try that. I'd be thrilled to run a 14 flat, my best time in any car so far has been a 17 something (in the old firebird)

If you're still on stock tires DON'T do a long burnout. You'll just get balls of rubber on the tires and actually lose traction. Just spin them for a quick second without going into the water (drive around it) to clean them off a little bit.

you need to look at temp. and field elevation. Also, it may be the track not prepping well enough. Don't get down on yourself. get some gears and drag radials. Also, lose some weight i.e. spare tire, rear seat, crap in your trunk. Every 100 pounds you shed is roughly .1 tenth in the 1/4. Good luck!!
