Ive Got The New Mustang Itch

Our current Mustang is a 94 GT convertible, 54,000 miles, bone stock, mint condition. Its a nice car, but Im bored with it and it doesn't have enough get-up-and-go, even with the manual.

Im not sue which S550 to buy. I wanted to rent a V6 for a weekend, but all the rental Mustangs are the ecoboost.

All I really desire is a 6 speed and the 3.55s. I would have to drive all three engine options to get an opinion on that.

This is really a car for the misses, she wants the 6 speed and the Mustang sound. I drive a 64 F100 or a motorcycle weather permitting, so I get little chance to drive the Mustang.

Does the ecoboost and V6 have enough grunt to haul the heavy car around or are they poor performers like the 2.3 3.8 4.0?

How are you getting the "Mustang sound" with a v6 or Ecoboost? Serious question.

I'd test drive the ecoboost though, you might be really surprised, and if it's the Mrs.'s...let her drive it, and decide for herself.

They are nothing like the old 4 and 6 bangers of yesteryear, save for one exception: They don't make the same power as the V8.

Its going to be her DD, she doesn't care what engine it has. She wants the 6 speed and the sound. She also hates to spend money.

I listened to some exhaust clips tonight. The 4 and the 6 just don't do it for me. May as well be driving a Taurus.

Theres just nothing that beats the sound of an American V8.

For what it's worth, I went with the base model and the perfomance pack, they had them marked down to about 32k (with the reverse system that I love haha). The base model GT's definitely have a lot more to offer than what they had previously. My biggest turn-off with the premium setup was the touch screen setup. That and the climate controls were an incremental setup...which I hated, give me some dials and leave all of that out of the touch screen. If leather seating is important, you can have that added later for much cheaper than the premium option. Living in GA with our insane summer temps, I've grown to like cloth seating actually. If the performance package isn't that important, then you can probably find a base GT for under 30k. You still get some power seats, the track apps, voice controlled radio with bluetooth, etc. I feel like all that I've missed out on going with the base model was the option to customize my gauge colors haha.

I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed with the new v8 versus what you have. It's definitely the fastest car I have ever owned. With the bikes I've had, this thing puts a grin on my face just like the 2-wheels do.

I did an insurance quote for the GT and the V6.

The V6 is much higher. How can that be?

White it doesn't have the traditions Mustang V8 sound, I think the new V6 cars sound phenomenal with a little exhaust work....

The V6 whisper quiet? I disagree. I think it's perfect for the intended market. It's much more audible than my previous Honda 3.5L V6 motors. It's quiet and calm when cruising, and very audible when you open it up. Even when you just give a little rev, you can hear the throatiness. Honestly, I was very surprised the V6 sounds as good as it does. And plenty of power. It's 300hp now. I think Ford did a great job tuning this exhaust for slightly more conservative fans such as myself. Of course I would have the GT if I could, but I can't and frankly this is a better car for me as a DD in traffic mostly, but enough headroom to have a little fun when I have the space. Unless you have to have the premium package, get the V6, I think it's going to be a more trouble free motor than the ecoboost. I love mine, but check when you test drive for driveline vibration that many have (mine does, working on it now) 55-65 you get it with a low frequency hum in the cabin.

Just watched that video. I like the BEFORE better. Sounds simply divine. I almost hear 80's exotic in there, am I wrong? I like it as much as the V8 sound, just different.

No, I agree....I like the before with just the Roush exhaust too. Everytime the guy in the car stood on it all I could think of was the Coyote X from the series Hardcastle and McCormick.

We bought a 2014 triple black V6 Premium convertible with 20,000 miles on it. The dealer is doing some minor paint work so we haven't got it home yet. It goes well with the 94 white convertible.

But that's just my opinion cause those are the cars I looked at buying before I got my Mustang.

I have had many mustangs including GTs. The turbo 4 is the best. Great power and looks and good gas mileage. Can't we all get along?
