jlt cai doesnt fit, help!

hey yall, longtime listener first time caller. just bought my 4th stang, an 07 gt. ordered a jlt carbon fiber 110mm cold air kit and sct combo from brenspeed. its too late to call them tonight soo i thought id try you guys for help. first the tube was touching the power steering fluid res, then noticed it was too short to use the included heatshield. so i thought i would try running it without the heat sheild tonight. but the hood wont even close. not at all, like 3 inches too tall. it just seems off in every direction... what do yall think? thanks,

Don't think so, its got a Ford emblem on it and doesn't look unusual. And the car was a lease return so everything on it is stock from what I can tell. Going to upload pics soon..

Had similar issues before in the past. You gotta remember that the JLT intake is a great part for performance but still has some ways to go in terms of fit and finish. The only way I was able to get mine to fit (after a lot of trial and error is to setup the system as it should but with all the hose clamps loose. Then after tinkering for a while I found the right way to "set it" and tightened up the clamps in place.

That's an understatement. Mine is like its built for a different model... Not acceptable for one of the most expensive units on the market. In fact after almost 2 hours of "trial and error" by a highly qualified installer he theorized that I did get sent the wrong part.

The unit isn't too terribly expensive compared to others like C&L, Roush, Steeda etc. Thing is the quality is definitely homespun so you can expect things to be less then perfect. That said mine came apart because of heat issues (read the glue on the maf housing melted off) and got one color matched replaced free of charge just by calling them. Their customer service is really good.

I don't have the 110 JLT but I do have the smaller one and I had to do some minor adjustments to get mine to fit properly. After looking at your pictures, it looks like you need to rotate the intake tube downward, so that it clears the PS Reservoir. You could also try to loosen the PS Res. bolt and push the Res. forward towards the front of the car. I think the reason why the heat shield isn't lining up is because you have the filter to far onto the MAF. Loosen the filter clamp, bolt down the heat shield, then slide the filter back on and tighten the clamp. I think the best thing to do is to loosen all your clamps, position all the parts where you want them and while holding them in that position, tighten the clamps. This is what has worked for me and understand that everything may not be all lined up at the same exact angle (ie, the filter may be slightly angled down vs. the MAF, etc, etc).

Yeah my neighbor has one and we had to adjust it several times. We finally got it to sit down lower but it still hits the hood but not as bad.

Thanks guys, we got it on today. Just had to tweak it far more than we should have. Still have to slam the hood on it to get it to close, which of course isn't right but...

I was looking at getting this same setup...and I didn't think it would be as ghetto as what it appears to be.

I thought that CAIs are an easy bolt-in deal...not a bunch of tweaking and crap to get it to work.

Once Brenspeed techs told me you just have to push/force it into place, it really wasn't so tough. It just didn't seem natural. In fact it isn't a natural fit, the hood still pushes it down nearly another inch or so. And the heat of the air filter mesh melted the hood liner the first day out. I noticed it because there was a plastic burning smell coming form my AC... I'll bet there is a CAI system that fits well, but the JLT carbon fiber model isn't it...

holy crap! I've been buying aftermarket parts for cars and motorcycles for quite a few years, and when you have a part that does not fit (like OEM) it's crap! You shouldn't have to bend/tweak/slam the hood to get something to work right, especially for a bolt on accessory. I was going to purchase one of these, this week actually...not anymore.

When you shell out money for a part, you expect that part to fit exactly as it should. These are not prototype vehicles with one-off parts, there is no excuse for poor manufacture fit and finish in this case.

I was ready to buy one also, butafter reading this they can forget about getting my money. Seriously considering the FRPP part because of fitment.

wow, thats pathetic, thanks for posting this, i too was about to order this exact intake. these are brand new cars we're dealing with, not old beater hunks of junk, ghetto fitment is unacceptable especially for such a pricey unit. anyone know if the same fitment issues are present on the 2010 gt? if so, would the steeda intake have a better fit? i was going back and fourth between the jlt carbon or the steeda, really liked the carbon look but forget it if this is the case.
