I've read the CAI shootouts, and I know the JLT kit is a top performer! Here are my couple newbie questions...

27.9hp was with the 91 tune, correct? What can I expect with staying on the 87 tune?? (no other mods yet)

Also, can anyone answer this?... Can a tune control the motion plates servo? To keep them open at all times? This would be the cheap-mans motion plate delete! I realize it's not AS good as really removing them, since they're still right there disturbing airflow slightly. but it'd be nice to know they're completely open all the time at least...

TIA

We saw 20 HP and 20 TQ on a auto with 87.

A full tank of 93 is about $2.80 more then 87.
Well worth it!!

Ok, so I'm going with JLT II custom painted with a Xcal II...
Where to buy from?? All the prices are close enough not to care, but what I want to know is who has the best tunes/most experience with the '05 + cars??

JLT direct, bamachips, evolution performance, or ??
Any others out there selling this set up??

Do any of these guys offer free or dirt cheap re-tunes when you do more mods down the road?? Or do you have to spend $75 each time you make a change that needs tuning...

BamaChips, Evolution, and Brenspeed seem to be "The Big 3" right now.

I have a BamaChips tune and I LOVE it. Doug made me a tune for my charge motion delete plates and the car doesn't skip a beat. He told me that I get a free retune when I add some mods.

I bought my JLT cai straight from JLT with the canned SCT tune. Let me tell you that Jay's service is second to none!!! I bought the BamaChips tune from Doug when I added the cmrc deletes.

From BamaChips, each tune was $50 when I got mine. I only got a 93 Performance tune, so it was $50.
I've read posts on other forums where prices were $75, but I don't know if he raised his price or if that was for the RACE tune.

Pro Mod, do you have updated dyno numbers since adding the motion plate deletes and bama tune???

I'm very interested to know how much those deletes really add...
There's been claims of 20+, but arguements they dont add anything at all

Motion plates are like a throttle body blade that resides down at the end of each intake runner. So there are 8 of them. The computer opens and closes them in an effort to control air velocity (torque at low RPMS).

The problem with them is that even when all the way open, they still restrict airflow because of the space they take up (rod running through the center and the blades them selves).

It's been said that installing the delete kit yields about 20 hp & trq. But it's also been said that there are no gains from doing this. I guess it's a hot topic of debate

I haven't dyno'd since then but I can tell you that I picked up 1.2 mph in the 1/8-mile. I definitely don't see a 20 hp increase there, but I can tell you I got a nice gain throughout the whole powerband. Not just at the top end like people tend to think.
They're especially a good mod now that Ford Racing sells a kit for $90 in Summit!

I have been doing research on CAI's. I know there are some good ones out there but I have not seen one mentioned that if their claims are true will out do any CAI kit/tune I have seen yet and not be much more. The CAI I am referring to is Steeda's. They claim to have 30 rwhp from their CAI/Steeda SCT tune. They just released information on a new high flow elbow that I was told adds up to 8 more hp to the already high 30hp. So with their kit you should get 38 rwhp with their custom SCT tune for around $700 if you get them together. Unless someone here has had bad experience with them or can show me otherwise I think I will end up getting their package soon after my car gets here. Or at least for a nice Christmas present for myself.

Any opinions or comments about this package. I will admit I have only their comments and have not seen it up against others such as those in the 5.0 Mag. shootout.

I do admit the JLT II would be a cheaper set-up but what is another $100 for 6-10 more HP?

As always your comments are always welcome. :SNSign:

that seems really high for a CAI and tune, but I guess that it is possible with the right tuning.

JTGrant, I love my BamaChips tune. I can't say enough how pleased I am with it.

radtexas, alot of people may buy the JLT because it's cheap but you can't ignore the fact that the JLT & C&L have been PROVEN time and time again to be the big 2 that WORK.

No definitly not denying they work and are proven CAI's. They are in my choices of CAI's. Just looking at newer items. After all competition brings better products. Which is good for us. Just trying to get some opinions on Steeda CAI users. Would love it if someone had their GT dyno'd before and after the Steeda CAI kit. May be asking for a bit much there though.

I gotcha... but I just wanted to let you know that the cheap price isn't the only reason people buy JLT
