Mustang5L5,

You are probably right. I'm fully aware of what our cars are worth according to KBB. If I only receive enough money to buy a 4 banger coupe. That's okay. I would be all right with that. I've always liked the look of a coupe done right. i.e. big wheels/brakes lowered...real clean. I'm not afraid to tackle the swap and would enjoy it. I'm always at peace turning a wrench.

But, remember this accident was not my fault. The insurance company responsible for the damages will not be mine. So, if I had agreed upon value with my insurance company, would this even matter to the company of the person at fault?

I am very interested in this topic since most of us on this board have done major upgrades to our cars. So, my question to everyone is, even if you have agreed upon value with your own insurance company, would the insurance company of the person at fault take that into account?

This is my first serious accident (police report) so I'm only trying to hear of some examples from some fellow stangers.

Thanks for the replies and keep'em coming. :SNSign:

hamonkeiser,

I have all of the receipts. Heads, intake, 5 lug brakes, wheels and tires...control arms, coil overs, gears. I've put alot of blood, sweat, and damn close to tears in this car. The only thing I don't/can't do is body work and alignments.

I can promise you this, the accident is not my fault. This was confirmed by the Officer on the scene who pretty much letured the person at fault. Alabama is still a state that determines fault in accidents. So, it sounds like I have that going for me.

The statement you made about most companies only covering $1500 in aftermarket parts...in this case, would that be my insurance company only covering 1500 because I didn't have agreed value? Or...will the insurance company of the person at fault also do this?

The way I read your reply, the $1500 statement would only concern my insurance company if I was at fault? Am I reading this correctly?

Thanks for the replies everyone!!!!!

One more thing Mustang5L5,

I was looking on AutoTrader today for 4 cyl. coupes. All V8 fox's are bring some pretty good dough.

I saw countless close to stock fox's above 140,000 miles asking for $5000 and up. Will any of this help with "the idiots" insurance company?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GET TORE UP ABOUT THAT LITTLE FENDER BENDER. THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE EASY FIX!!!! You should be able to fix that for $1000 or less, that would include having it pulled!

Just got off the phone with my agent. He said most insurance companies will factor in aftermarket parts!!!! He also said if the cost to repair is above 70% of fair market value, it will be totaled. Time to start getting estimates.

I'll have the police report tomorrow and will give it to my insurance company.

I'll update everyone as things progress.

Before I'd take a chance on losing the mustang I would be guilty of fixing it out of my pocket, unless you can buy it back after it has been totaled for a crazy low amount!

My sister was hit by a lady a few years back that had no insurance, luckily she had full coverage, she wanted to buy the car back and fix it, that was no option for her. So I would be damn sure you can buy it back before you sign any papers.

I also am a body man and i would say it will need to be pulled for sure. If you could find youself a junkyard fender i would go for that because aftermarket parts arent as nice and i wouldnt put them on a car i really cared about a whole lot. It also looks to me like the bumper would be repairable. I would have to toss on a nice cowl hood too! I went threw something like this with an 86 Trans Am i have a buddy hit it in the parking lot when it was all said and done i got a check for 2300 bucks and the car booked for less than that so I would talk to the adjuster maybe? It looks like your car would be appraised for well over book value. My adjuster told the insurance company the car was in exceptional shape due to recent repaint and it wasnt totaled, which also worked out good because i made all the money on the labor. Let us know how you make out on this im curious.

UPDATE!

Picked up the police report today. The other driver is at fault.

Also, got my first estimate. $3500. Shop owner said its not a hard fix...just time consuming.

Guess I'll see what the other driver's insurance company (Allstate) wants to do. I'll keep the thread updated.

Spoke with the other drivers company today. First off, she did say that my upgrades will ad value to the car. That's good news. Someone will first appraise the value of the vehicle (factoring in the modifications) and then estimate the damages. If I like what I hear, they cut me a check and provide a rental car while mines in the shop.

They are sending someone out to look at the car Monday. I'll keep everyone updated.

It would matter to you to have agreed value! I have it and as it was stated to me per my company, agreed valve is just that. You will get what you have it insured for, either from the other company, your company, or a combination. Meaning your company will pick up the remaining amount, if the other company will not pay the full agreed amount. Of course your insurance company will most likely sue them for the remaining amount, but then it is out of your hands and you have your fully agreed amount.

I have not used it for a claim yet, and hope to never have too, but at least that is how it was explained to me.

backfocus,

I will look into agreed upon value after this is over with. The only thing I'm worried about is I daily drive this car (50 miles roundtrip). Hopefully, this will not affect my eligibility for this type of insurance.

NEW UPDATE!!!!

Great news. The car will not be totaled.

The other insurance company came and looked at the car today. I provided copies of my receipts and he cut me a check for the damages.

A Cervini's heat extractor is in the mail. Once it arrives, the car goes to the body shop.

I wish I could find a clean fox wrecked that light. That is simple.

Check out what I did. Both my front fender aprons were totally crushed. I had to replace them...you can straighten yours.

Don't crush 'em........restore 'em!!!!!!!!!!
