just got my car back together, smoking like crazy?

so over the winter i went through the engine bay, did a basic tune up (cap, plugs, wires, pcv valve) and replaced the timing cover gasket again. finally got her running last night (no more surging idle, yay for that), and she started blowing white smoke out the tail. thought, no problem, sitting a couple months, some condensation, itll go away. well that white smoke slowly started getting a blueish tint to it, and started stinking a bit. figured since the only thing i really changed that would let oil into the motor would be the pcv, checked it (one of those stupid f-shaped ones that you gotta plug one of the holes on, not just a straight one like the stocker) and the plug was mia. replugged it, let it run, and still smoking. there is some liguid on the ground at where the tails end, watery clear but a bit oily. im at a total loss now, before i tore it down it didnt have this problem, and i dont know where to start figuring out what exactly is going on.

well, my stepdad came over and helped me do some diagnosing, pulled plugs, all looked fine except the #7, which looked unused was was a bit wet. spark tested it and a lot of fuel squirted out of the cylinder (didnt see any coming out of the other cylinders). exhaust smells like fuel too (couldn't put my finger on the smell earlier today, but he picked up on it real quick). he's thinking the #7 intake valve may be sticking, or some other funky thing around that cylinder. any other suggestions/confirmations/things to check?

btw, although the surge is gone, idle is rough and there is a definite miss with some throttle (presuming the #7 is flooding and grounding out and not firing?)

Id check to see if your pulling any codes.

I had this happen once when I forgot to hook up the vac line to the MAP/Baro sensor on the firewall after a Upper/lower intake install but my car is a speed density car. I could not see a reason why you have anything major engine wise now if the car was running good before you started what-ever project you were doing. You say you changed your plug wires, check to make sure that you do not have a cyl or two switched around wrong.

ive got the firing order right, #7 is the only one where we noticed the discrepancy (fuel spurting out with plug removed), and theres more smoke coming from the drivers tail than the pass. i did have a holley adjustable fuel regulator that i threw on, ended up squirting fuel through the top of the adjustment screw (which seems to also double as a vac hookup), so i put a stock replacement back on for now. also put new upper-to-lower intake gaskets on (was having to use rtv cause the original ones i had ripped and could not find just the trick flow gaskets for sale anywhere at the time).

im going to try letting it crank for a bit in flood clear mode, line of thought being that maybe the #7 plug wire was not seated correctly and let a bunch of fuel pool in the cylinder and grounded it out. my stepdad still thinks it might be a stuck intake valve, but i dunno if that would cause this or not?

Have you pulled codes from the computer? TFI or Hall Effect dizzy issues are common and can fail without warning. I would pull KOEF and KOER codes and see what that says.

finally pulled codes today, only got a code 24 (was expecting a 34, it was giving me that before i tore it apart). book says act, iat, or vat out of range, no idea what this actually means, ran a search, skimmed through 3 pages or threads that only searched the term "code" instead of "code 24". this was koeo btw, tried to run a koer, but scanner seemed to not want to do it, and car just smoked me out like crazy again (although the 3-4 mins it was idling before hand there was barely anything coming out the tails despite smelling of gas). so needless to say im still lost.

i cant find any reference at all to code 24 anywhere on here or elsewhere on the net. could whatever is causing the code be what is making the car run like crap?

I have code 24 as two different things depending on the year and model of the car.

In all instances, code 24 on an EEC-IV equipped vehicle is either:

AIT sensor out of voltage

or

ACT sensor out of voltage

Both show as a self-test sensor failure. Nothing that would explain the symptoms you are describing.

alright, so im still lost. tried two things, first was clean the the pins in the salt and pepper shaker things, didnt help any, second was to disconnect the pcv and plug the vac line, as there was a tiny bit of oil in the line. with that setup, both pipes have different colors coming out, pass side is blueish while drivers side is blackish. im not getting the stench like i was before, and it has to run a bit before it starts smoking, and it gets worse as it runs more oil pressure is up around 50psi at idle, used to be around 35 before teardown untill the revs increased a bit, dunno if thats cause my idle is set closer to 1k than it was before or not..

i hooked everything back up normal this morning and took a couple vids. 1st is about a minute after startup, to me it looks like just normal condensation on a cold (32deg) day.

second is about 3 minutes later with some revs to show how much smoke builds up.

you can also see the "spots" left under the tailpipes, pass side looks like just rusty water, drivers side a bit more oily/charred. at this point in time im thinking maybe a valve seal or even a head gasket.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

This may be a stupid ? but I worked at a dealership for a whill and I seen a guy get distracted befor and forgot where he was at in the process of the tune up and forgot to drain the oil and put 4.5 quarts right on top of old oil and it smoked like crazy its just a thought I would throw in there

One way to rule out a stuck injector is to take the #7 and switch it with another. If #7 clears up and the other starts flooding, then you found the problem.

Rule out the valves by doing a compression test. (Hold the throttle on the floor while cranking to not only get proper results, but put the ECU in flood clear mode so it won't inject any fuel).

Did you check the oil for antifreeze?
If you botch the timing cover or water pump job, water can leak into the oil.
Even the timing covers themselves can get eaten away by acid anitfreeze causing leaks you would not normally be able to find.
Considering you said "again" with the timing cover gasket, it's a possibility.
