Rasp? Who is saying rasp? All X-pipes make some amount of rasp, but rasp can be a good thing. Rasp can sound really cool, and rasp can also sound really bad. My pipe sounds awesome, but has an unusual amount of new rasp to it that I didn't expect. The rasp sure sounds metallic, but I guess that is rasps nature. H-pipes dont usually have rasp, but h-pipes sound boring. X-pipes sound unique, and with the unique comes a little rasp, but I have more rasp then a little bit. So that's why I posted my previous question, to address the issue of the raspyness of my pipe. I sure hope the AAMCO guys can figure out of a washer or something is causing the rasp, b/c I hope the pipe isnt supposed to rasp this much naturally.

I sure hope I can do something to fix this rasp, if anyone has any ideas about the rasp or can relate to the amount of rasp I am getting, please post. Title your post rasp so that I know its about the rasp and not something else.

Good luck finding a loose washer, or bolt. Most likely that's just how your exhaust sounds now. Take your car to the track, and drive the hell out of it, and see if that quietens it down some. When my set up got some miles on it I guess the exhaust build up inside made it a little quieter, and less raspy. I drove a friends 02 with your set up though and didn't like how it sounded at all. Not smooth anymore. If it doesn't tone down just get some Magnaflows , or Magnapacks (if you want louder). I promise that will not dissapoint you. Absolute ear candy.

Yes, UPR pipes are dirt cheap...

Im replacing my catted VRS pipe with one.. I recently replaced my magnapack catback on my 03 cobra with 3 chamber flowmasters.. and Im going to open it up. one of my cats is clogged so we will see.. I may just weld up some magnaflow mufflers if it is too loud..

Is it possible that it sounds more raspy inside the cabin then to the people outside? And, is that "it quiets over time" stuff a fact or myth? Becuase I know my mufflers havent gotten any quieter or louder, and I don't remember if previous exhausts on my other car quieted over time. Hopefully it's not just a happy thought.

only straight through mufflers have any type of break in period... chambered do not.

The UPR x-pipe will bolt on to a stock system or did you have to make some mods. I'd love to put an X-pipe on but don't have access to a welder and putting this on would save atleast $250 over going with a bassani and having it put on at a shop.

No welding needed for the UPR. Comes in two peices which makes install much easier. I really like the Dr. Gas, but that would cost $400-500 installed. Screw that.

Be sure to disconnect your battery (if you haven't already).

As long as you installed the MIL elims correctly and didn't damage your O2 sensors (and re-installed them in the correct location/bungs after swapping them to the new pipe), the CEL shouldn't turn on because of your new pipe. Maybe there's a slight leak? Might want to re-tighten the bolts just in case.

The CEL could be associated with another, entirely unrelated problem...try to get it scanned for codes if resetting the PCM/battery doesn't do the trick.

If I got the o2 sensors dirty would that make any difference? I got a little grease on them, my hands were filthy. I was drenching all the bolts with liquid wrench anti seize lubricant. I can't see that hurting anything though, since the sensors are exposed to scorching exhaust gases everytime the car is ran. If I accidently mis matched the sensors, would that make a difference? My car is at the tranny shop now, and they told me the o2 sensors looked fine. Unlike me, they have power tools so when they bolt the pipe/sensors back on, it will be tight for sure. I hope the MILs I was sent weren't duds.

Mismatching the front o2 sensors isn't a problem because they are the same. The rear o2's are different though so make sure they are put back in the proper spot. Fouled sensors with grease can cause them to fail.

I am 99% sure I put the rear sensors in right. Hopefully AAMCO will put them in their correct places. I didn't know grease could hurt the sensors...****.

Not to hijack.

I'm not sure what you guys mean by rasp. I just installed a catted Bassani X pipe with my Mac Flowpaths and though it sounds pretty damn good, it REALLY resonates loudly at about 2000 rpm. I'm not sure if it's just because it's louder, or because of the X and chambered muffler. But I hear something in my dash rattle because now because it's so loud. It's almost like the exhaust is touching the body of the car somewhere - it's not though.

Is that rasp?
