Just installed pcv valve, cant get the engine to idle

My car didnt have a pcv setup before so it was just left to the open air. I installed a new pcv valve, hose and all, and now the car doesnt want to idle. i used a regular fuel or power steering hose for the pcv tube running to the upper intake tree....the hose is longer then it should be, do i need to cut it down? its a pita to get the hose off and back on with the upper/lower intake connected...do you think the longer hose can be harming my idle?
i played with the distributer a bit to try and get it to idle, but i had no luck....i dont have a timing light or know how to use one so i dont know what the idle is set too.
any suggestions?

since it didnt have a pcv valve in there for awhile the screen thats right under is probably nasty from all the dirt that was exposed to it. putting the new valve in there with the filter nasty is proably restricting it from its full benefit of use. if it was me i'd check to see if the filter is there and go from there.

to set idle you adjust the idle adjustment screw under the throttlebody. messing with timing is a nono without a timing light...buy one, they're simple to use. you'll want an inductive timing light

Also, since it sounds like you were operating with a vacuum leak before, and now you fixed the leak, it probably dropped the idle way down. I'd clear the KAM so the actual idle can find its way back to the commanded idle quicker (the car doesnt know you fixed this stuff, so it can take awhile to get acquainted with the new vacuum signal).

As long as your PCV hose is not kinked and restricting flow, you should be ok. I used hydraulic line on mine because it's real hard to kink it (it's also hard to get it to make a bend however).

Follow HISSIN50's advice, it will get you headed in the right direction. Get your timing set with a timing light and make sure you have all the vacuum lines connected and don’t have any vacuum leaks.
