Just orderd the rest of the componets for my shortblock

So heres what i had....

DSS 331 Pro Bullet. Twisted wedge cam, flat top pistons.

what i just ordered (besides pushrods, roller rockers, gaskets, etc)

TFTW heads cc ported 185, Holly Systemax intake, Im also running a vortech V-1 at 10psi. running around 9.8-1 compression

whats your thoughts on the setup? Any last minute tips, or if i should cancle the order?
 

ahh damnit i have a 70mm bbk. would it still get the job done? My friend has an 80mm to. would that also work? when i was on the phone with the guy from dss i origanlly wanted the 205 heads with the cc ports. they would have lowered the compression by another .1 They were another $150 i beleive, but the guy from dss said i could use them but its going to make the car a little less streetable each time i bump up more. i figured the 185 with cc ports was good enough?

oyeh i also need to order a spacer to. this car will NOT be emmisions legal so the egr wont matter. any tips on what to order?
 
my friend has a really good 80mm thorttle body. i forget the name/brand but it was close to $300. (ill post what it is down later) If you say the systemax intake is designed for a 75mm intake, is there a way to fit the 80mm with a spacer that could possibly adapt to it (with EGR delete)? If im running a forced induction would the 5mm difference from my 70mm throttle not even matter?
 
Yup with FI it shouldnt matter much at all. Sounds like a really nice setup.

One word of caution. A 331 with an HCI like that should be putting down around 325-335 rwhp all motor! When you throw 10 psi of boost on top of that you are going to be somewhere in the mid to high 400's to the wheels. I dont think i'd be the first to tell you that you will be running at a dangerous power level with the stock block.

No matter what DSS tells you about their CNC level blocls?!?! They are still a thin wall casting late model roller block. They will not take much more than 450 rwhp reliably. Just keep that in mind when you are tuning the car. It needs to be real safe! I would think you want to aim at AFR's around 11.75:1-12:1 to begin with...and very modest timing advance! Make sure the fuel system is up to the job and you can monitor your AFR's.

One of DSS's main girdles wouldnt be a horrible idea. I would think at that power level every little bit of additional support would be worth the money. Especially with the huge crank snout side loading associated with the blower.

With all that being said...sounds like real fun. Thats going to be a killer street setup! good luck with it.

some of these parts are differnt from what i listed. orginally this was my friends block and he began to part it. he parted off his heads and intake. Thats the main difference

The Pro Bullet's are a stock block. My personal opinion, is that I give them an extra 10-20 horsepower over a stock block.

I agree with Ninety50, in that getting a main girdle might not be a bad idea. If the block cracks anywhere, the girdle may save you some money buy keeping damage to a minimum.

Really that low rwhp? My old setup the 306 block had 100k on it and the rebuild parts had about 50k on them. With around 7psi it dyno'd in at 348rwhp. The motor also had bad blowbye in the cyclinders. I was warned about it when it was getting the tune done. I just took apart the motor and the heads had bad carbon scoring. the cyclinder walls had rivits and the piston rings were fried.

DSS lists the pro bullet as "550+hp". In all logical sense i dont think they would advertise their product of being able to withstand that kind of power if everyone buys it and people are splitting their block down the middle only dynoing in at a 400hp range. I am planning on getting the best tune for this motor. I'm trailing the car 4hrs to a tune shop. I could go to 3 others that are extremly closer, but they are not worth it. If i were using their standard "Bullet" only rated at "CNC 2" block then yes i think i would have much more to worry about. The guys from DSS reasure me that ill be in the 500rwhp range, but i guess we shall see come the tune.
 
Are you serious? You think that businesses base their advertised claims on logical evidence??!! No they base their advertisements on what they need to sell product. Im sorry if I'm coming across as rude...i just dont want you to be surpised when your expectations aren't met.

The fact of the matter is that you are dealing with a stock thin wall casting block. The material isn't the best, the main webbing is week to say the least and its only a two bolt main. What do you think their CNC procedures entail? Do you think that are using CNC machining processes to ADD material to the block...i dont think so. Whatever they do to machine the bloc is only taking material away! I dont see how thats going to make it any stronger. They arent adding any structural features to the block.

sure...what they do MAY make the block a little stronger...but whats that going to add...10-25 hp??

I said that you would most likely dyno in the mid 400's...that means around 450rwhp. I have seen too many destroyed stock blocks putting down those numbers. Sure you may get away with 500+ hp on the dyno...but how long is that motor going to last at that power level. NOBODY knows.

Im just saying you are investing a LOT of money in this motor...and i wouldnt put too much faith in what DSS says about their block's (No different than any other late model roller block) power levels!
 
Hey came across this thread and well... i have a super pro bullet 347,, and im hoping it lasts, because im about to hit this thing with 12psi as soon as i get my blower back from vortech. Ive got the girdle that dss sells and i also have the valley girdle pro for the top of the motor i mena im hoping to see 500 rwhp,,, but lately ive been paranoid.... all ino is the block is advertised to make 650 horse which i dont belive ino itll crack then.im not that dumb. but man im dying to have this thing put down at leassst minimum 500 to the wheels or ima be dissapppointed, i might hit the motor with meth to cool things off a bit,, hit me with some opinions tho guys
 
I really based my decesion to go with DSS based on customer reviews. From what ive heard they are reliable and perform well especially for a street/strip application. Believe me if im going to throw around this much money im for sure to do my homework. The people st DSS have been very reliable in answering my questions and even for things they were unsure about for my setup they offered me other places and advice to contact. Yeah the fact about getting the girdle is probably a good idea. But i am pushing a lot of horse at a dangerous level im pretty confident that a rod would snap before the block goes. I have seen many other 5.0 blocks with their stock internals snap first. I am really just going to base my results on the tune.
 
2tone,,by the looks of your invoice you already have the girdle yous are talking about.. look at your invoice...says main support system installed, im pretty sure all of their shortblocks come with that support system installled,, i am just hoping im not gonna be throwing too much at my shortblock hopefully you upgrded evrything to forged materials like i did when i ordered form them,, i defintily hope you opted for the forged crank...i just scrolled up and saw u didnt,,,grrr call them back and upgrade that cast crank to a forged one..seriously... it will be like prolly only 200 more to upgrade that crank... in my case i upgraded it ...i wont lie if i was you id really upgrade that crank...... the people at dss are awesome and helpful call him n tlak to him aout it..thyell work somehting out with you if it hasnt been fully assembled yet..... my super pro bullet makes alot of torque...even tho im running a blower cam and am losing horse right now it has lot sof torque down low,,, im dying to get my blower back becuase this things gonna really wakeup this car cams calling for it compressions dying for the boost... but upgrade that crank dude.... u bought a longblock if im correct right 2 tone....?
 
the invoice isnt too acurate to be honest. this a friend of mines invoice. A lot of things are not correct. That is what he originally bought. He then started to part the motor. The main componets that left were the heads and intake. So for the crank shaft im just going to have to make due.
