I just ordered my new pms from anderson motorsports. I am pumped about this. I can finnally get my 347 to run right. any first time user advice would be awesome.
I built a 347 with a butt load of other goodies. I converted the car to mass air before putting the motot in it. The car once warm runs pretty good. but start up issues timing issues and the rest up at 6000ft where I live I am having trouble tunning it. I am running everything on a stock 93 computer. It is time to step it up. Plus I know there is a good chunk of power being held back. I just finished breaking in the engine tranny gears etc... and I want to play hard. The car runs way to rich at warm up. all my check engine lights and stuff are on regardless of how good it runs. The stock computer just cant handle all my upgrades. There really isnt anything left in stock form save for the sheet metal and glass and the interior. I stripped it all down last winter and started fresh with everything plus stepping up to a 347 with a temec and a built rearend. all msd. big cam etc.. I can build cars but I am new to tunning in colorado as apossed to tuning at sea level in chicago where I am from, plus there I would just have it tuned at a shop. there are no tune shops anywhere with 6 hours away.

congrats on the pms... I'm sure it will do everything you need to do...
However,
You should try to get the codes worked before you start tuning...
The only codes that would be 'acceptable' would be emissions stuff.
If you are getting anything else, then those code issues should be resolved before attempting to tune.
I 100% agree with Jason. Get everything ironed out before you go and start messing with it.
If your MAF is properly calibrated to your injectors and your O2 and other sensors and everything is all in check, I don't think it should run that bad.
My stock a9l could handle my 351 in stock form......until I threw the squeeze at it.....
Now I am using the PMS to smooth it out a little on the street......
I think you have some loose ends to tie up. No reason to tune with existing problems.....
As these guys said, the car should run right before your tune it.
There is plenty of people with mild to wild 347's that run fine.
Tuners aren't for repair, they are for improvement.
I am not having trouble driving it. Start up mode needs to be tuned. Last week I dropped the fuel pressure a little and advanced the timing a little and it runs even better. Not that it didnt before just tunning it better is all. As far as my check engine lights. they dont stay on. If I dont drive it for a couple weeks or so they pop up when I first fire it up but after ten miles they shut off. I do have my injectors claibrated to my maf. I ordered them together as a package deal. The computer acts like it need to relearn every now and again. But I also want the pms for other reasons as well. Iam not done modifying my car so I dont want to push anymore wth a stock tune. Besides some small problems I have when it is warm(all my adjustments as far as tunning have been while the car is fully warmed up) It runs and drive pretty good. Nobody has been able to touch me around here. Its really fast. I am also looking for longevity of my engine with a good tune. I know allot of people up here with melted pistons from nitrous and stuff like that after 10000 miles or so and they thought their cars ran great.

I am making these comments with a sincere hope of helping you out...
The CEL turning off doesn't mean that the problem has gone away.
The Diagnostic Codes should be pulled. Anything other than emissions equipment codes should be fixed.
For example... if you are getting a code for an O2 being rich/lean, and then you hook up the PMS and start tuning...
You will be chasing your tail and wasting your time.
You need to make sure EVERYTHING is in perfect working order before you start tuning.
Again, I'm not trying to be a dick, or imply that your Mustang is a pile of junk.
But the issues that exist now, will need to be fixed if you want to get some good tuning done...
Hell yeah! My pms just arrived today. I already filled out my start up sheet. Now I am just waiting for my base tune to get faxed back. I read the whole manual. Seems pretty straight forward I must say. I understood everything in the thing the first read.
