I just snapped a wheel stud off on the driver's side rear. How do I remove the old stud that was sheared off and replace it with a new one? Does the axle shaft have to come out?? If it does have to come out, looks like I'm going to the dealer. I assume it's not adviseable to drive with only four lugs for an extended period of time, but what damage could it do? It's my only ride these days and I know it'll be until Monday or Tuesday before I can get it repaired. I drive 80 miles a day and will put a few hundred miles on it before I can get it repaired.

Thanks,
WES

My g/f's POS had a snapped stud. She drove it for about 1000 miles before getting it fixed. I wouldn't recommend it on the stang but they didn't have to remove the axel. I think it's rather simple though. Just don't know how to do it.

I would not take a chance on driving it. My 96' snapped one I thought I could make it to the repair shop...Only to see another one break after that, the whole car was shaking. Ended up replacing the entire axle.

it's been a couple years since I broke one on my 98 (we'll see if I member right)

with a punch knock out the old stud. they are held in by the knurl, looks like the splines on an axle or C.V. shaft. you can slide in a new one (buy at NAPA) without taking anything but the wheel off. just bend the backing plate a bit, slide in the new one and pull it in with an open faced wheel nut.

with this being a 20 min. job tops, I'd drive as little as possible before fixing it, good luck

Wes
