I am planning on getting a B303 cam from summit and the guy I talked to said if I go with that cam I would have to change my firing order to 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Is this right? What is the firing order on our cars now? I can't remember off the top of my head. He also said I would have to use adjustable rockers w/ guide plates. Anyone use a B cam and did you have to change this stuff? Thanks alot.

if you are still using the stock E7's or other pedastal mount heads, then you are fine. the sales guy is trying to sell you something you can't use with those heads. bought the only thing to do is to check if you will have to reshim the rockers or not. won't know till you get the cam in, but prob not.

and yes that is the firing order already for 302 H.O.'s. there are better ots cams out there for the money besides the alphabet cams.

Do you have any suggestions on other cams? I want decent power but also like the lope in the idle. He wasn't trying to sell me any other parts actually. When he was talking about the heads he said i would be best off just taking them to a machine shop but never tried to sell me anything. Thanks for the help btw.

i agree with JerryD, there are better cams. If you have stock, non ported heads. Just wait for the cam, get some heads, switch over to carb like it says in your sig, get some headers, etc. Then go and get Ed curtis to grind you a custom cam matched to your combo.

off the top of my head, the TFS stage 1 or the comp XE series. i'm not much help here, as your combo will help determine what you can run. don't pick a cam for the lope either. if you want the bark, you also have to have the bite to go with it.

What do the custom cams cost to have done? I do have the stock E7's but they have been ported and the only reason I want to do the cam now is I have the engine out now. I dont have the $$$$ for heads at the time and they can be replaced with the engine in the car. Any other cam options other than custom. Thanks, it is appreciated.

TFS stage 1 or 2. Depending on what you are going to be doing to the motor and how it will be used.

Combo-I have a stock rebuilt bottom end, ported E7's, Holley dual plane intake, Holley 600 street avenger carb, Flowtech equal length headers, haven't decided on the rest of the exhaust yet. Will probably swap out to a better set of headers also. Gears are also undecided. Looking into either 3.74's or 4.10's. Thanks again guys.

custom cams cost around $300. for your current level, i would not get one. in your situation, i would either put off the cam swap for now, or if you REALLY want to swap 'em, try to find a good used roller cam from someone. to me it would be cost effective so that you wont have to change to another cam down the road.

I suggest the TFS 1. Great all around cam.

Second this. It is good for lower power applications. The alphabet cams are getting outdated. They were good when they were first made but that was a while ago.
