I am planning on installing my QA1 K-member next week. I was wondering if anyone has installed this on a '94 or '95. How were the clearance issues with the steering shaft? Is it much easier to convert to a manual rack at the same time, instead of grinding the K-member? If I deem it easier to convert to a manual rack, I plan to install one from an '82 to '87. What else is required for the conversion besides the rack? A flaming river steering shaft, and ???? Any help would be appreciated.

I run an AJE and complete Flamming River manual rack and shaft. If your running a 302 with regular headers I'm not sure why the factory PS shaft would be an issue.. If it clears with the factory K now, it should have as much or even more clearance with a Tubular K. The only place I can see the shaft hitting is the headers. I would in NO WAY grind on your QA-1 K member if that's what your were saying. The only time I hear people grinding on the "FACTORY" K member is to gain header clearance, not steering shaft clearance. especially with 351w swaps.

If you choose to go the manual way, then I would suggest going with a complete FR kit. Simply take off the stock one and install it.. Really nothing too it, just have the car realigned when your finished.

I have a QA1 installed with power steering. If I remember right, the only mods required are to stock A-arms if reused, minor grinding to allow for full travel, and the little nipples had to be ground off my motor mounts. I will mention that the k-member will lower your front end about 1" to 1-1/2". My front end now sits 3"+ shorter than stock, looks and handles great. I have the Eibach springs which drop it that additional 1-1/2". I plan on getting coilovers so that I can adjust the ride hight. Hope this helps.

Fastford: Thanks for the input. I was a little concerned, based upon the vagueness of the QA1 instructions. I know certain applications for this K-member require grinding beyond that of the A-arms and motor mount, so I wanted to know if that meant my car or not. If you did it with no problems on your stang with power steering, then I will have no trouble.

Ponyboy 19: Congratulations on having an AJE K-member. I know the fit and finish on those units are unsurpassed. Unfortunately, I am a college student on a budget. As such, I got a smoking deal on the QA-1. This being the case, I also cannot afford a complete flaming river kit (as nice as they may be). For those of us on a budget, there is a method that allows a system that is functionally the same to be installed for half the cost of the Flaming River kit. It consists, as I remember, of the flaming river steering shaft for the '94-'95's, and a fox body manual rack from the local autoparts store.
As far as the "grinding" goes, it is necessary for me to utilize the factory A-arms. They must be touched up slightly to allow for full suspension travel. In addition, the motor mounts must be ground slightly as well. While some people may be apprehensive about this process, it is necessary for this K-member to fit on my car. As such, this process is included in the instruction manual. Thank you for expressing your concern.
My headers are mac long-tubes, which have been on the car for four years. The clearance I was concerned about is with the steering rack assembly. On some applications, apparently, the rack/shaft assembly contacts the new K-member, which for some people may necessitate a manual rack conversion. I follow your logic on the steering shaft issue. In fact, it did not make sense to me either. I suspect it really only applies to earlier foxes, but thought I would ask someone who actually has done the install with this K-member and would have an answer.
