Hi...

This is my first car and i'm learning alot on this board... so i know it's kinda a newbie question but I would like to do it by myself...

I just purshased a K&N filter from a guy on the board (tks bro :P) And I would like now to install it by myselft and remove the air silencer wich I heard is very restrictive...

So I took some pics and i'm wondering what do I have to unbolt and to remove.

thats the filter...

So, do I have to remove all the components (#1 and #2) and plug the Air Filter at the first belt before component #1 ?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

Just pull up on those metal clips. The filter is inside #2 the first part of the assembly. The mass air meter is in the box you marked #1. You don't need to mess with the mass air. Pull the clips and pull out the old filter. Looks like the silencer is already removed because in the pic I can see the air filter. Just pull the clips and replace with the K&N.

I think sold you the KN, glad you like it,:), yea pull the clips and I had to unbolt that small top bolt too. also the bottom of the #2 box is clipped into the fender, all you gotta do it give it a good pull

Ok great but in other engine bay pics I see the whole air filter without the plastic crap on it... is it bcuz they have other setup and i can't do that with mine orrr ?

You have a drop in replacement. Some people ditch the mass air meter cover and bolt the filter to the meter.

The people drop all that plastic crap and bolt the filter right to the meter and use a PVC pipe to make their own cold air intake. If you do it right it looks good, if not it looks like crap.

To make it easier if you havent changed it yet, remove that 8mm bolt holding #2 onto the fender and take it off like that. It will make putting the new filter in really easy. Hell, why your at it, go ahead and clean the MAF which is located inside #1. There will be come pressure clips holding the two pieces together. Once you seperate #1 into two pieces, you should see the MAF. I think it takes four 10mm bolts that hold it on, then you can look down the tube and see 2 little sensors. Use a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol and GENTLY wipe down the two sensors. If you feel like you'll break them, dont try this.
