K&N FIPK compared to other CAI's

I have been looking at some previous threads about CAI's. Ive read that you dont really want a bend in the pipe near the MAF because it causes turbulence and messes with its readings. The FIPK seems to be a good choice for avoiding this issue. But then most people say go with either JLT or demolet tunable induction. Both those have a bend in them and have the fender wall filter. They are also a little harder to install or get aligned perfectly. And they both have the option of getting a custom matched MAF, i assume for the turbulence/bend in the tube issue. The FIPK seems to be a perfect fit and super easy install. So does this make the FIPK the better choice for a CAI? Has anybody heard of any problems with the FIPK?

JLT...no bends before the MAF. Compare it up to the FIPK, theres a big difference.
And you HAVE to have a bend before the TB lol, EVERY CAI does. FIPK is probably about 3rd on the list...I PERSONALLY put JLT as #1. I have one and love it...looks awsome and POWERFULL too.

Just ask DerekstangGT. He has a FIPK (2?) and another guy at a car show had the JLT (before I got mine)...JLT was ALOT fatter and you could see it could flow alot more air. Only problem is it has a "slight" rubbing issue with the fender and oil cap. Not too bad, but still very much worth it. And its only $150. Pretty easy to install too, but we had to cut a little notch in the heat shield so it would clear a wire cluster. Thats all the modifying we had to do.

I prefer the original FIPK which came with the aluminum MVD.

:D

Hotmustang, which JLT kit do you have. I was looking at the one which has the filter located in the finder. I'm also thinking about getting a painted peice to match my beautiful Mineral Grey. Pearl02.

I got the RAI. According to the owner, the "cai" doesnt make any power according to his dyno tests. He performed the same dyno test with the CAI and the RAI and the stocker. RAI made 12HP over the stock put the CAI on and power went back to stock lol, put the RAI again to back it up and made like 9.
Maybe he redesigned it:shrug: . He wouldnt sell it before because of that reason...all that was offered was the RAI. And I went with black...mathces everything else under the hood. You can also have them do custom paint jobs on it like flames if you want...but im sure that just having it painted mineral grey would look AWSOME too though.:flag:

Thanks Hotmustang. As much as flames would be cool, I think the matching Mineral Grey would be cooler. Good luck with the Stang. Pearl02.

i kinda think cai's are a waste. just get a k&n drop in, remove the air silencer and its about the same
They are depending on the car and/or the application in which the CAI is being used.

As far as a bone stock SN95 Mustang is concerned, adding a CAI is not the best "Bang-for-the-Buck". You'll get almost as much performance out of a drop-in K&N as you would their FIPK. Is that extra $150 worth the 1 or 2 hp difference between the two, probably not.

On the other hand if the car has FI then a CAI can make a huge difference over the stock air box. All you need to do is look at the gains made on stock 03/04 Cobra's... in some instances the new Cobra's picked up in excess of 20RWHP from just a CAI.

Granted...I wish I had forced induction. Hell... I wish I had a Cobra!:(
