These two things are not mutually exclusive.

I still say you have a piece of that tornado thing stuck someplace. Have you checked the inside of maf housing
Where did you find that tornado thing at?

I checked all through the entire duct, nothing in there except that tornado thing. It was sitting in the duct after the MAF housing but before the throttle body.
The tornado thing is intact,it is suppose to have that gap. Its a springy metal...if thats what your meaning. But if your talking about where it looks like there is a sticker missing then I cant find anything in the air box, duct, throttle body or upper manifold.

I cant seem to find a single problem that is sticking out as obvious.

Ok removed each section of the air duct until the sound stopped....well it never stopped.
No air duct connected at all and the sound is coming from the throttle body or upper manifold. Replaced the IAC gasket since it was really brittle and still nothing. Checked the upper manifold bolts , couple seemed kinda more loose than others, torqued them down and still nada.

Now any ideas?

EDIT:
I also checked the vacuum lines and looked good. Couple years ago I replaced them anyway since they were pretty dried out.

I left the maf sensor plugged in and yes it did run. Ran well enough that now I know the sound isn't coming from the duct. With the duct removed it was much louder on that sound I'm trying to find and now that sound is clearly coming from the throttle body/upper manifold.

What's causing I do not know but tomorrow I will be looking further into it since it wasn't even cool this afternoon and it's making noise now, so it seems to be getting worse.

Yeah think I'm going to be pulling it soon.
This morning was cooler than normal so the sound was there from 750-1500 rpm's. But when revving between that the sound didn't change with revving, just kept the same droning howl and didn't change with engine speed.

Pulled the upper off and saw nothing that looked wrong. Went ahead and cleaned the throttle body with a brush on any buildup.
No foreign debris. Also replaced any gaskets to anything I removed. Also had to buy a new EGR Sensor since I accidentally broke one of the hose nipples..damn those things are fragile and $70.

Weirder and weirder! If you were not so sure it was coming from that area I would try running it for a minute with the serpentine belt off.

May try it anyway since Im running out of ideas.
That sound is for sure coming out of the throttle body.Definite air sound with the air duct removed. With the air duct the sounds as if it is coming from the air box but its just reverberating through the duct and causes a slight vibration on the air box.

I was able to reduce the noise some by using a sort of restricter plate that was custom made by another member here on a CNC machine for the IAC valve a few years ago. I never installed it since I didnt need it.He made a few of them and just gave them out to some here with Mach's best I remember.
The idea behind it was that at the time some Mach 1's had a hanging idle. This plate slightly changed the size of the holes to remedy that.

Well so far its been quiet since adding that plate I explained above. So I dunno, maybe the IAC is failing. I'll just try this for awhile and see what happens.

Still running quiet but my Control Relay Module (CCRM) crapped out over the weekend, there went $80.

Howling sound from throttle body.
Seems to be running good now.
But that control relay module I hate. Had to buy an $80 module just because the AC clutch relay went out. Whatever happened to just having old fashioned relays in the underhood fuse box....lol.
