Keep it, or trade it in?

A more rounded shape did occur after the first generation Fox Body years in 1994. However there is no need to come up with a design that so closely resembles the new Camaro. Obviously we'll never know where they are headed, however I hope they keep the classic 60's look and build upon that and not go futuristic with 22 inch wheel's so it looks like a Hot Wheel's car like the Camaro does..

I would have already traded. Whoops I did. I traded a great 2007 GT for a 2010 GT.
Much more power and comfort and that was for a 2010. I got $6000 off sticker which also helped.

Much more power? Um...300 to 315hp? Yeah, it's more comfortable, but it's also turning into a bloat-mobile. Think of the original 64 1/2 car. Or any of the 60's Mustangs. Smaller, lighter, noisier, meaner!

I think I'm gonna pay mine off and keep it. Then shop around for a 67-70 Fastback/Sportsroof and see what I can find. I'd much rather have my paid for 2007 GT and an older Mustang for an 18K payment (a new Fiesta payment?)...than one 2011 GT that's 13K more!

The new Boss 302 is kinda neat, if you can get a non-creepy color combo, but I suspect a $40K sticker.

You won't get an older Mustang in decent shape for that kind of price. I have a 1966 convertible, V-8, candyapple red, white top. $30,000 wouldn't touch it.

Barrett-Jackson auction. Prices over the past 2 years have dropped like rocks. You can get a VERY NICE car (almost anything) for new car prices. Fully restored classic cars for under 30K. I'd prolly buy something that wasn't so "finished" so I wouldn't have to worry about door dings. But then again, maybe I would buy a $30K car.

The point is, you can buy a fully-restored classic that won't depreciate like a new car. You'll be more bad-assier too, for driving it around than you would in ANY new car today.

Think, 1967 Highland green Mustang GT fastback. Black interior. 390 V8 w/4-speed manual. Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

I did almost the same thing. I sold a 2007 torch red GT and bought a 2010 torch red GT. I also couldn't turn down the good deal.

There was never a 1964 1/2 Mustang. They were all built as 1965 models. Their weight was the same; the early cars had a generator while the later cars were upgraded to an alternator.

I've owned four of them (still race one of them). The are lighter, but they get 15 Mpg on a good day (on 93 octane). The valves were made for leaded gas. The suspensions and brakes are primitive (yea, you can mod them). I wasted $1500 on one trying to get a cold A/C.

I love my old cars. I bought them a long time ago so they are worth twice what I originally paid. They are fun to drive but impractical for a DD. Why not keep your car and buy an old car?

P/S Don't race a new V-6 Mustang with that 390 ci Mustang. You'll get beat.

Somehow my math shows the older cars to be almost 1,000 lbs. lighter.


And a 390 Mustang that weighs almost 1,000 lbs. lighter will surely smoke the bloated 2011 Mustang V6.

Anyway....the debate rages on.

I'd take this 2011 5.0 over ANY previous Mustang... more "bad-assier" and slower??? No thank you. More "bad-assier" and having an ugly Mustang from the 80's or 90's??? no thank you... More "bad-assier" and only having 200 or 300 hp??? no thank you... even if I had a great looking 60's model (the only ones that looked good), I'd sell it and put the proceeds to another 5.0 in a different color to get the wife out of the bmw and subies.

just my 2 cents. yes, I used to be a mustang hater... until 2011! Well, actually, May 12, 2010 when I read an article on the new 2011.... and HAD to get my hands on one.

Dude, I was in your same situation. However, I got a really good deal on my trade, though. The dealer gave me $19,100 for my 07 GT, with 34,000 miles. I had to make the plunge. I got a 2011 GT (race red, 3:73’s, 401 package) my insurance actually went down $36 on my premium. A little saving’s nonetheless.

The Coyote is an amazing car. I’m so happy I made the trade. I concur with the previous comment “you’ll be paying regardless” might as well enjoy this wonderrful car. This car makes power throughout the power band, and gets GREAT gas mileage for an over 400 hp car. I’ve already made my neighbor cry and he swore something was wrong with his 2011 SS slowwwwmarrow. He took his car to the dealer the next day and complained it was down on power, after he got back he told me the dealer said nothing was wrong with the performance. I can see he’s not washing it as much as he used to as well. I kinda feel bad for him. Anyway point being…. opportunity is knocking! Either way, be happy with your decision. You still have a great car. Also, you can always buy the coyote crate motor, just another thought….I may do that a little down the road and put it in a 69 mach1.

I'd say trade it also. Once you are thinking seriously of getting a newer model, it will be hard to get it out of your mind.

That is a 1969 Mach 1. With the power steering, three-speed automatic, power brakes, and aftermarket A/C, that is a good 3400 lbs. It had front K-H disc brakes and rear drum brakes.

That is with the 100 Hp 171ci six cylinder with a three-speed manual transmission.

The 1965-1966 289 ci (with a toploader 4-speed) weighed in at 2860 lbs. That is without A/C, P/B, and P/S.

I built my 1965 car 13 years ago. The car was $2500. The mods were higher. I race it with a few more 1965-1966 Mustangs:


These cars are 40-45 years old. You really need to know what you are doing to find a good one.

yea i say keep it, but i'm a "one car for life" type of guy, plus I hate oweing ANYONE money. Just mod it and make it your car. This deployment, money was spent making it LOOK fast, lol. Next deployment, money will be spent to make it stupid fast. Already have an idead when i'm leaving out again, Re-up bonus is going to pay to rip the v6 out and replace with gt500 kr.

....................nice spending money you will not even see for 2 years already. lol
