keep my 302 or replace it withe 351 clevland??

hey guys should i keep the 302 in my 68 mustang or should i drop in a 351 clevland the clevland also has a fxm transmission i believe thats what it was well at least fx something could u give me some advise guys

I would say that it depends on the condition of both and what the cost would be.

Go with the Cleveland. The transmision is an FMX. Both are good stuff.

You'll have to be clever. The 70 radiator and hoses will work, everything else is direct fit, except the shifter. The FMX requires a shifter with a built-in NS switch, and this shifter won't fit in the 68, at least without cutting. You could try to use an aftermarket NS, I guess.

the fmx trans is it an auto or manual im assuming auto but iliek i siad i dont kno much about that tranny and the shifter not fitting it wouldnt fit in the center console?

ok so did some research looks liek the fmx trans are a lil difficult to find parts for so i think ill keep the c4 i have also some details about the clevland its been bored 30 over and has rebuilt heads i dont believe the engine has a water pump or any other acesories like that would they be hard to get a hold of? also the 302 thats already in my car is getting alil tired so im still in a pickle rebuild my 302 or go clevland

there is a huge marker for 5.0s. so the parts for your 302 rebuild will cheaper but is really up to you.

I'd use the FMX as long as it lasts. And have the C-4 gone thru and ready to go when and if the FMX craters. Water pump? Your local parts house has them. Same pumps were used into the mid 80's on the 351M/400's. You can find anything you want for the Cleveland, all you've got to do is look. Same is true for most any engine.

For that matter, the same is true for the FMX; I pounded the H*ll out of the 351C/FMX in my Torino back in High School/College; and it held up well. "There's gotta be a reason" why Ford didn't put many (if any) C4's behind the C-motor. Sure the C4's have tons more 'aftermarket' for performance builds than FMX's. You could make the same statement for Windsors -vs- Clevelands. Yet the Clevelands are 'coming back'.
