Keisler 'Perfect Fit' TKO 500 in a '66

You are correct, the T5z is rated at 330 ft lb. My engine is 420 ft lb. Bruce Couture says the 330 ft lb rating is for 100,000 miles, and sensibly driven the T5z should be fine. There are many guys over on FFR forums runnging T5z's behind similar torque (400+ ft lb) ratings. It is said provided you don't power shift them, the T5z will take these levels of power/torque.

So far I have no hint of any problems putting 420 ft lb / 450hp through my T5z, and would make the same choice again because of the superior fit and correct driveline angle of the T5z compared to the TKO.

elaudtr, your link is for a GM application. Not sure if you were aware. THis is from their 65-70 Mustang section:
Custom shift position exactly the same as Toploader for zero tunnel hump modifications on most models.

It "appears" they modify the shifter plate/mount, whatever, to get the trans to come up through the existing hole for the shifter with no interferance, however, even with that, I can't see how it would be enough in a 65-66 to get the angle right with no other mods.

I haven't used Keisler but I've talked to them at a couple shows and to be honest, they scare me, snake oil sales practices and stupidity make for one hell of a package.

As far as I can tell the "super duper special TKO" is stock as a rock too, they require you to notch the piss out of the floor crossmember and that seems to be their "perfect fit". It could be worse, but the instruction sheet tells you to finish it off with RTV and self tapping screws. Do you really want to buy from hacks that think like that?

Also, one of their techs posts on another site, and the nicest thing I can say is I hope he's not their best and brightest. Dude is a hack of monstrous proportions, has a half-assed knowledge of Tremecs and, well, you get the point. He's always quoting their official methods and tech info and it's not a lot better

Ouch! the trans alone is $3000. Add $100 for shipping $100 for the GM slip yoke and a shifter is easily $200. You'll need new carpet for this one also, since the shifter hole is like 5" back and 3" to the driver side.

I'm sure this is a nice trans but it's out of the budget.

Pushing the $3500, I could put the money into a 408 instead, keep the toploader and just reduce the rear gear to a 3:33 from a 3:70. The motor will make up for the gear loss.

Thanks for the info.
