i have installed the 9# intercooled kit on a buddies car and the power is real nice specially coming out of a stock trim, you will have power through out the entire power band along with a broad TQ curve

Not as easy on a '98. Can't find anyone that has done a KB 1.7l IC on a '98. Maybe I'm the first cause nothing fits correctly. My most recent post on another site...
Has ANYONE done a 1.7l install on a '98? Cause if so I'd like to know if I'm the only one that struggles through each and most every step...
My wire harness is stretched to the limit. It's in the way of the TB. Had to use tie wraps to pull it out of the way. Looks tacky. My EGR tube barely reaches and I'm afraid it's going to break off the exhaust eventually with all that stress. They say wire wrap the stuff going over the EGR tube but to what? My injectors are so tight it took me two days to get them to seat. They say to place the plug wire looms into slots that are non-existant. The instructions are incomplete half way into relocating the passenger side distributor and don't mention to thread the serpentine belt before you attach the alternator. Now I'm trying to put the radiator hose back on and it says to use the original clamps... fine if the coolant connectors were the same size but they aren't and the stock clamp is not big enough. Now another day wasted going to the auto parts store for a fix. This better be worth all the trouble of a not-perfect fit. There are other things but I'm tired and going to bed to continue on tomorrow. 15 hours my ass.

you could ask TweekedGT about that, he has a 96. To my knowledge, the major difference between 96 and 98 4.6 engines is the fuel pressure regulator, I'm not sure what else. And according to GDawg's post, installing the KB sounds like a royal PITA
Actually... it's not impossible. I was just very frustrated that another step was going to require more thought and dollars on my part. Every snag I've hit I've been able to work through. It's just that they give you instructions for a 99+ with a suppliment manual that isn't very good at being integrated with the main manual. TweetedGT I don't think got the intercooler or the 90mm MAF and switch chip (but I could be wrong).
I'm still thinking this is all worth it but it's going much slower than I planned. Again... I was pissed on my last post but have cooled down since. I bought a hose strap for the problem I was having last night. Tonight I continue on. In the end, she will be a beast.

Btw, I was missing some hardware from the kit and some "O" rings and a gasket and complained on another board about it. (I emailed KB and no response) but an employee of KB saw my post on the other board and PMed me to rectify the situation. That was two days ago and today I got an overnight FedEx with my missing parts. Thanks to [email protected]

From what I hear the Vortech "Mongoose kit" is easier to install
and the price is alot better too.The cool part about it is that it
comes with a great tune from Tim and I like the idea of having stock
drivablity with a Vortech that's the best thing.
