hey i was wondering if anyone had the 6 lbs. KB kit for the 2v? i am looking at superchargers and would really like the KB. the website says that the kit makes 351rwhp... thats all i want (for now) my only concern is that it isnt intercooled. would that have any effect on my engine or should i go intercooled? if you wouldnt recommend this kit then any advice would be appreciated. thanx for any help.

You can stay at 6psi, but I would recommend the intercooler so you dont have to take the unit off to install the intercooler. The non-intercooled system will work fine without the intercooler.

You'll get more boost potential with the intercooler. Just make a plan for yourself. If you dont have the extra money and dont really need 9+psi for the time being and also dont mind pulling the supercharger off to install an intercooler later then by all means go for it. However, if you will need more than 8-9 psi its going to be pushing it if your not intercooled.

I did the math according to KB with 93 octane gas and reasonable timing you should be able to get 8 psi out of the non-intercooled kit without going to race fuel. the only way to get more power would be to lower compression which the most cost affective way to get higher boost is of course going to be the intercooler first then rebuilding your engine second.

Go with the 6 lb kit if that is your goal , you can get a little more HP in nonintercooled forms from a set up like mine , but the KB is going to give you more low end torque alot sooner in the RPM range anyway you look at it so im sure you will be more than pleased with it for the under 4000 dollar price tag .

yeah price has alot to do with it.... i was looking at the saleen series IV but i dont think that it would give me the hp i was looking for. im also looking at the procharger. the 8 lbs procharger and the 6 lbs. KB would give me about the same hp (in theory) but i also want a roots type or twin screw. so im torn i dunno. the procharger is intercooled so i thought that it would be better on my engine in the long run. so any more information or suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated. thanx.

It depends on you really, I wouldn't be satisfied forever with 350hp, but with a twin screw that 350 is gonna be FUN! Me personally, i plan on getting somewhere around 450-550rwhp in the long run so i am going with a novi2k kit from Tim, at around 4300 its nice to have the flexibility to do anything i want with it. Now for 600 less you can get something that limits you to 400hp but if you never plan on forging the internals of your engine than that will be MORE than enough.. How much money do you want to drop in the long run is the only real question.

the stock block, sure you can get 20-30 more but at 400 your already pushing your luck.. Besides that, the rear end, transmission, without some serious money or very careful driving you will be replacing something every 2k miles at anything higher

follow up ?

All,

I have a follow up question. Like zkiller18, i have a 2v - specifically a 98 GT with an AOD, which is currently completely stock. I have also been thinking about getting a supercharger with the KB 6 psi being on of the main ones (been told roots/screw are better than centrifugal for my application). The mustang is no longer a daily driver - i only put about 3000 miles/yr on it and its only got a total of 41000 miles on it. I now have some fun money to spend on the car, but ultimately the goal is to keep the car for 20 more years.

Some have told me that by getting a supercharger, any supercharger, even a low boost, I am basically signing myself up to damaging the rods/pistons and the transmission and I better have the money to replace them with stronger, aftermarket parts.

Is this true? I would love for the car to be more fun (i.e. faster), but not at the expense of its longevity or my wallet

Any advice from those more experienced than myself would be greatly appreciated!

..to your question about 400 hp/400 ft/lbs torque. It pretty well stated all over the place that our GT motors weak link are the connecting rods. They are simple sand castings, which means they are fairly weak. So what everyone means is if you are consistently banging the engine to 5000 rpm and making full boost you are rolling the dice and possiby could break a connecting rod. On the other hand the way I drive I rarely hit 5000 + rpm maybe once a week I might really jump on it. So based on your driving habits you might be able to 14lbs of boost and make 425 hp, and make it last for years. But if you get on at every light and hit full boost you will break something much sooner. So really no one knows for sure

novi 2k if they made one of those to fit any car it should be someones first choice in a supercharger. cant go wrong with 1700cfm's of blower potential.

a dakota r/t with boltons and a novi 2k system already went 12.1@114.xx

You can break things with the stock engine so naturally more power makes breaking things easier , but if you limit your foot and dont rag on it all the time , im sure you will be just fine , cool thing I like is I can now bust cars at half throttle that I used to have to rag my car out to beat LOL .

To answer your question specificly, no, a supercharger will not damage longevity. It will if you do not get it tuned...or like they are saying if you romp on it all day everyday then it doesnt' matter if you have a blower or not your gonna blow something. If you have the power and want a fun car, get a supercharger, get a good tune from a trusted tuner (like tim from t&j's) and dont drive like an idiot all the time (only on weekends like me ) and you will be fine!

Thanks!

WhiteDevil69

Thanks for the reply - it is greatly appreciated.
Another question for you - You mentioned T&J's in your post. I saw in your profile that you live in Tucson. I live in Chandler, but my whole family (mom's side) still lives in Tucson (i lived there in high school) and still go down there regularly. I tried to search the web for them but couldn't find anything - do you have any contact information for them?

We have all mustang (AMP) here in Phoenix, which I have heard good things about - but I don't know anyone who has actually used them so I would feel a lot more comfortable taking the car somewhere that I had a reference for.

Thanks Again ,
Azerndt

on a intercooled kb octane draws the line along with what others have said.

I think compression plays a big roll in it to. You can get well over 400 hp on a stock block with a 1.7L KB. The blower doesn't start restricting until about 470. Heads will net you another what 20-30hp thats what cobra killers previous tests show and then the blower can't keep up at high rpms past thats boost level. Everyone is throwing in different limitations at 400 hp so i really didn't know what everyone was talking about.

Compression and octane always are two major restricters in terms of maximum boost potential.

If 350 hp is your goal go for it. Talk about fun driving its about all you could ever ask for (instant boost) . The intercooler is just going to let you run more boost safely without detonation but if you dont need more boost then you wont have a problem.

You should be able to get over 350hp if you get the intake mods they suggest and you go with full exhaust including headers. Let us know how things go and what you decide.
