knock in 5.4 help!!!!!

alrite i have a 2007 5.4l motor in my mustang, it recently started making a knocking noise it doesn't do it at idle only when your revving it up more. I have taken it to 2 mechanic and was told both times it was the wrist pin their repair estimates were from 1000 to 1400. But i was thinking about doing it myself how much work am i getting myself in to doing this? please help.

What type of diagnosis did they do, to determine it was the wrist pin that was bad? They'd need to remove the engine, pull the pan, and pull each individual piston and rod until they found the source. If they didn't do that, they're just talking out of their ass, IMO. That's a very unusual part to have an issue with. Most times it's a bearing issue with a connecting rod.

What kind of 5.4 are we talking here, 2v, 3v, 4v stock, not stock?
