Knocking from Valve Covers

Ill start off with saying i have an 01 GT

Well ive gotten a loud knocking noise coming from the right side rear of my valve cover... Ive removed the valve cover and from what i can see the plate that goes over the cam is a scratched and dinged up on the bottom side!... What would cause that?... Where do I go from there?...Would just replacing that plate eliminate my knock for the time being?.. I would really like to get through the summer then worry about a new built 2V when it goes away for the winter.

You have a cracked timing guide(s). You need to replace the timing set in your car.

Here is a pic of the plate im ttalking about...The bottom side pic ill post later but what would make the cam stsrt banging it??
