So between twin turbo projects and big blocks, I've been thinking. Why can't you just run the manifolds to the front and have the exhaust dump down to a 4 way muffler which then exits the exhaust out in front of the front tire. This would help a great deal when doing big blocks or turbo projects, and lose some weight and save money. Unless someone has a good reason not to, I'm going for it on my 466.

turbos make excellent mufflers. :)

if you can package it, why not. seems to me that folks have dumped exhaust up front like you are - esp with headers on backwards. :)

good luck.

Yeah, I've heard that turbos are great muffs because they kill a lot of the sound waves. I'm not even sure why people with turbos are running exhaust systems. It seems like a waste to me especially since one of those fart mufflers costs hundreds of dollars.

Yeah, no kidding... You want to talk about wastes of money?.... On "tricked out" a stupid ricer car show on DIY they spent 375 dollars on an exhaust for a toyota matrix. The whole project had a cold air kit (engine bay), exhaust pipes/muffler, and an $800 piggyback computer. They spent over $1200 I think it was, and got right at a whopping 6Hp  and 3lb/ft of torque  on their stock matrix. HP and Torque gains less than the cash in my wallet. :D Can you believe it! :stupid: I am loving this... $1200 plus the car and they still couldn't touch a stock 5.0 from 1986  I guess all the idiots don't drive chebys.

I've seen a lot of single turbo drag cars dumped right after the downpipe, so it's definately possible. The only issue I can imagine is getting all the fumes in your face at slow speed and when stopped... maybe why you don't see many street cars with a front exit exhaust.
