Last night I started to take apart my engine. I was expecting cheapo dished styled pistons in my 1987 truck engine 5.0L. What I found where flat tops with 4 valve reliefs. They are still in the engine so I don't know if they're forged or not. I can scrape off the carbon with my nails pretty easy for such an old engine...
At first glance my cylinder walls are okay except for one which has a visible scratch, it isn't a big scratch and I'm sure a simple honing job will clear it but I am considering 0.030 overbore pistons anyway... It will depend on what kind of deal I get on the new heads.
