Kooks LT Headers - Self Install Thoughts

Out of curiousity, do you know how wide the midpipes can get without backpressure issues? I've got to imagine that going much larger than 3" isn't doing much good... or does that depend on how much hp you're putting out?

Kooks can be wiggled in without pulling the starter if you pull the motor mount from the block.

You can also get the driver side in without pulling the steering shaft. All because you can gain enough clearance by raising the motor on each side as you work on it.

The rest of the items Kool lists all need to be disconnected and removed regardless.

I've done about 8 kooks sets, 2 or 3 macs sets, and 1 ARH set to date on my back in my garage. I've got the job down to about a 4 hour deal start to finish. Macs can be done without the starter coming down, but the steering shaft disconnect was mandatory.

It's not a hard job, it's only time consuming for most because you have to get creative in reaching things. Like the disconnect for the passenger side 02, and some of the lower header bolts are not in line of site. Other than that, a friend, some beer, and a saturday afternoon is all you need.

That is good to hear because I want to do my install myself. Have you installed both size kooks and if you have can you get away without pulling the starter on the 1 3/4" headers. Same with the steering shaft?

I think wrapping any set of headers is a good Idea for heat reasons . Keep the engine bay cool as possible is always a good Idea . also the more heat that makes it out the end of the tailpipe the less heat under the car . Ford didn't put those heat shields between the exhaust and the floor for looks .Summer driving + extra heat = more ac (and less MPG)

If someone is really into road racing . Heat released under the car expands air. less volume of air under the car is the whole reason that someone would spend money on a front lip .(besides looks)
