I need to get some new tires for my 98 Cobra. It has the stock wheels which I think are 17x9? I am trying to decide between the Kumho Ecsta MXs or the Yokohama AVS ES100. Does any one have experience with either or both or these tires? I am thinking about putting the stock 245/45/17 on the front and moving up to 275/40/17 in the back. I don't go to the track, but I do live in Colorado and love to rip through the mountains so cornering is what I am most concerned with. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the kumho's on my 01 cobra 245/45/17 on front and 275/40/17 on rear.As with the stock rims on the 01 cobra they are 17x8 and it is pushing the limit as far as size of tire versus rim size. I have noticed a decrase in my cornering not much but you can feel it, but it looks a lot cooler than the 245's out back. It still looks pigeontoed as with any mustang 94 and up with the exceptions of the tuner cars.I plan to get the h&r 33mm or 1.25 inch spacers I have seen a lot of newer cobras with them and it looks good. I hope this helps :spot:

i just ordered some chrome cobra r's for my 97, 17x8 front and 17x10.5 rear, with kumho ecsta supra 712 245/45 front and 275/40 rear. the 275's on your stock wheels are pushing it and the tires will have more of a balloon effect and not plant a flat footprint on the road, reducing your cornering ability.

I had the Yok's on my 18's...great for cornering. Once I got the blower put on and starting making power, they became useless though.

But the Yok's are good tires. If you are into cornering, then don't go with the 275/40 on your 8" wheel. It buldges out and is not what you want. Looks cook, but not as safe as the 245/45's.

Kumho are just like Yok but only cheaper. But they do not last as long a Yoks. I have kuhmo on my 85 Audi and they are great. Both my 93 Cobra has Good Year gatorbacks and BF's on the 97 Cobra. Buy the way your wheels are 17X8 if the are the stock cobra wheels.

Look into the BFG KDW's...I have the 275/40's on my 03 wheels(17x9") and they are wonderful tires...I wouldn't go any bigger than 255/45's on the stock 17x8" wheels...Unless you use Nitto DR's in the back, then you can go up to 275/40's since they are skinnier than a normal tire...
