Using a 69 (20 gallon) tank is a popular swap for the 67-68s. I just bought one for my 67. Maybe the 68 sending unit will work if modified, but you're better off using the one that matches your tank. I bought a kit that comes with the tank, sender, filler hose, and the mounting hardware. All for $110 plus shipping from Doc's Mustang.
I know I wasn't asked, but on the 65 I had to bend the filler opening on the tank a little with some precussion persuasion, nothing to heavy, just the body hammers with the pointed end and a little gentle persuasion. Then cut a little off of the end of the filler neck. My friend tried to cut the head off, cut out a little and reattach it, but he butchered it, luckily I had a spare.
