Hey guys...few of you have taken the time to assist by providing me with fantastic info to install fresh mounts. Well wife left for work at 10 tonight, and I thought I might just go take a look under the beast. Happy to say 3 hours later I both figured out my approach, and completed the install..including my tranny mount..3 hours not bad. Anyway the idea regarding the jack under the bell housing was definately the way to go, however I could not safely place a block under there and was forced to go with just the jack under the lip..proved to be quite a secure location, though it did mare the bottom lip of the dust shield a touch..not significantly. Now something I did learn quickly was you can actually lift the vehicle up BY the bell housing..not just the motor..YOU HAVE to be careful when jacking the engine that you don't continue to jack until the WHOLE vehicle actually lifts..yes I did learn this..luckly the housing is VERY stable and all remained well. I could definately see you damaging the oil pan should you do as I did and attempt to raise the engine too high. Next a few points I thought might help..the mounts did not appear clear from the Kmember when the jack was raised to the max..however after a few minutes of playing with then I was able to remove them and install the new one with only a little fussing. Once in place the project was just a matter of buttoning up everything..not nearly as challenging as I had feared. I don't remember alot about the LT install I did a few yrs back..but I can tell you looking at my hands and counting the injuries..this is a MUCH easier task. One thing I did find annoying was the Polythane tranny mount from Summit did not align correctly and did lead me to damage the threads on the tranny side. I then had to retap the hole..open up the mounting bracket holes and attempt again..then only to find the lower mounting bracket though slotted was not wide enough to accept the bolts supplied by the maker of the mount...so out comes the mount and again I have to modifly inorder to install this thing. Of the 3 hours I can honestly say almost one of them was spend screwing around with the tranny mount. I was quite surprised to find that there was a SOLID mount in place..I didn't think much of that, and look forward to seeing if there is any change in "feel" going from solid to poly. Final thought...I had concearns the Vert mount would lower the engine and cause clearance issues with my fan...the result was the actually did raise the motor up some leaving me right where I wanted it to be.
