Last Option, if it doesn't work, then I am getting rid of it.

Well after going to the track this weekend and getting slapped in the face for spending 2500 bucks and running a 14.37..... I have decided to do one last thing before I take it to get tuned. If the tuning doesn't fix it, then I will probably get rid of it.

This is the last option. I am going to self port my GT40 Cast Iron Heads and switch out my current Isky Cam (.480/.500 210*/218*duration) for the TFS 1 cam (.499/510 223*/225*duration... I think). I figure this will only cost me about 250 bucks because the TFS 1 is only 139.95 and then head gaskets on up. But I figure it will even be cheaper if I sell my Isky cam. That is why I am going to do this before spending 400+ to get it dyno tuned. Here are my questions:

1. I know it would be smart to get new springs so i was wondering if anybody could recommend a good set. Also, with GT40's and 1.6's, do you guys think I will get any Piston to Valve problems?

2. How much can I port the GT40's? Should I just put on the exhaust gasket and use it as a template? And should I do the intake side?

If this doesn't make this thing perform, then I am going to get rid of it, cuz I can get a stock stang and do the same damn thing. Please, help me out here guys.

first off if the heads are origanal GT-40 castings and not the ( P seriesb ) dont port them yourself. save your dough and have a pro. do it. 2nd you didnt say if you put new springs on the heads when you swapped cams. If you didnt your probrably getting valve float by about 5500 rpm. especially if your still running 1.7 rockers. I would save your 250 bucks toward a tune, but before you take it make sure the motor is mechanicly correct so the tuner dosent have to spend time or your money to track down a parts problem. i dont know if your car is a 5 spd. or auto. let me know and i can give you some other ideas to go in. also how bout the rest of your time slip info.

I dont know how much experience you have with porting heads, but gt-40 cobra heads are getting harder to find. I also know people who tried to port their own heads and completely screwed up the air flow caracteristics. practice on stock heads before you try the gt-40s. also your track time can depend on alot of other factors. my NA stock long block vert runs 13.6s. i drove my buddies 02 GT to a 13.72 the only time i drove it on the track and his best time is still a 14.14

well, i know that the difference between a lift shift technique and power shifting is 2-3 tenths, and every tenth on your 60ft you can drop is worth 2 tenths up top. my car is a 5 spd and when my cluch started to go i didnt realize it until my time started to drop into the 14s.

lift shifting is when you lift off the gas pedal during the time it takes to shift gears. power shifting is not lifting off the gas, but just slapping the clutch and hitting the next gear in less than 200 rpms.

i ran my stock 302 14.4 at 95 mph. driving it like i stole it.
funny thing is i also ran a 14.7 at 95 mph two years earlier.
details in the sig. crazy driving can drop the time big time if you feel like slaming the gears.

the wierd thing is why my car had a slower mph with the 14.4 over the slower time.

I know, but my car is my daily driver for the last 5 years. it has almost 100,000 miles on it and my factory clucth finally went out 2000 miles ago. start out by just doing on the 1-2 shift until you get used to it. then the 3-4 shift. the 2-3 shift is the weakest part of the tranny. and that shift has to be dead on or bad things could happen. so far i have been running my car at the track 1-2 times a month spring through fall for the last 3 years and i have had know problems yet. Any how it sound like you got a decent combo of parts, springs excluded. ill bet its probrably a couple of little things holding you back.

I would get the car tuned. That way, you can determine whether the problem is the combo or maybe it was just a weird day at the track. If it makes the numbers on the dyno and everything checks out, you just need more track time rather than spending more money on parts.

Was this the first time you ever ran at the track? That wind did kill your time for one. I think you need to make a few more passes and get more seat time. What was the mph you ran it at? That right there will tell the story. How about the other stuff?
