Has anyone here done this swap? If so, how involved is it? Is there a conversion kit available? Who do I need to call for parts? I tryed the search with no avail.

try doing a search on tranny swap, a ton of stuff pulls up because it is a popular swap.

I did the 5 speed swap in my '65 so the '68 should be the same. Go to Mustangs Plus for the kit and any additional info you may need.

It is a pretty simple swap.

I did the swap in my 67... Not terribly difficult if you've ever changed a clutch.

I recommend Bruce at Modern Driveline. I got everything I needed from him and he's a great source of information (he also happens to be a very active member of the Nor Cal Shelby Club). I also recommend making the switch to a cable clutch: I absolutely love mine!

Give some thought to what you want your fifth gear ratio to be. Mine is .83 and, while it is great on the freeway, my car is used primarily for Open Track events on Road Racing courses and it is way too hight to be useable.

two questions though? How do you know which flywheel to use 28oz or 50 oz and number of teeth ? And if I want to keep the t-5 bellhousing to use a clutch cable what clutch do I use?

I don't know when you are planning on doing this, but in about month or so I will have mine done. I am planning on doing a write up, which not only will show and explain how I install it, but I will also have plans on how to make your own crossmember and clutch cable system (which, in my case, is saving me over $350 in the conversion).

The balance of the flywheel must match the engine. If you have a 28oz in the car now you must stay with a 28. If you need the 50 oz to match up with the clutch you are using, you can have it rebalanced to 28 oz by a GOOD machine shop.

RIGHT! The crank, flywheel, and harmonic balancer all have to be on the same page. Either 28 or 50 or even (0) will work just make sure you don't mix-and-match.
