launching on street tires??

Honestly, unless you are trying to run at the track for fun or to get a baseline on what kind of improvements you are making while keeping the street tires as a controlled variable, I wouldn't even bother racing on them. Buddy of mine went from 14.4 to 13.5 simply switching to nitto drag radials and a good burnout from regular street tires.

If you want to see what the car is really capable of you'll need to get traction, unless you are just looking for MPH. I used to run street tires at the track and since I tried slicks I will never go back to street tires again, the difference is like night and day. Keep the street tires for the street and get a cheap set of rims to mount some slicks on. I bought some e.t. streets 26*10.5 already mounted on stock mustang V6 wheels, barely used for $200 on ebay.

Drag radials are a joke if you plan to drive them on the street, they wear out too fast and cost too much.

how far do you have to go to your track??

if you only maybe do one run on them maybe there will be enough to get you back home.....maybe have a tire shop look at your dr's......they could maybe tell you how much is left.......cuz the last thing i'd do is tell someone to drive on questionable tires if nothing else maybe post some good pics of them someone in here could tell you im sure...

are you goin by yourself?? i was gonna say if anyone else is going with you and they had a car maybe you could scrounge up some rims and have some one take two extra tires with in case you get stuck......

then again.....depending on the shape of that t-5 you have launching on slicks might finish it if it's having issues.....either way........you'll beat your old time if everything holds up..........good luck......by the way...........i wouldn't worry about being able to rotate your tires.........as much fun as you been having in your car once their on the rear they'll never end up on the front they'll be toast.......

If you see tread lines they should be alright. If you can, borrow some tires to drive to the track on. When you get there throw the DRs on. In this state they should hook pretty good.

You're gonna have to heat them up or they're not gonna do what you want them to. A couple of burnouts aren't gonna hurt them that bad.

Lower the air pressure (anywhere from 12-20 psi, the highest you can run with them still hooking) do a good 5-10 second burnout, and me personally I let the tires pull me out of the burnout (just a little as they start to grab). I personally wouldnt just dump the clutch on a car with a stock suspension, but would stick it at 3500 or so and ride the clutch out some. I dont have a lot of DR experience, but from what I have head unless your car is set up right, dumping the clutch will result in bad tire spin!

Try a few techniques, and as a referance, anything under 2.0 your doing alright, and anything in the 1.8 range your doing pretty good! If you could hit a 1.7 on some DRs, thats hooking well!
