The joys of watching all the car shows on tv, it sturs up ideas. On "MuscleCar" they build super stock springs for a Nova. They say Mopar is the only company that produces them for stock vehicles. Us Ford and GM guys have to build them. Has anyone out there done this for their 'stang? If so, how well do they work? I want to know if the effort is worth it or do I just need to get traction bars (I'm not a big fan on their looks).

I bought Maier racing springs. They have 3 full leafs and 2 half leafs on the front of the spring. They work as well as any leaf spring can. You don't need traction bars but the ride suffers a bit

The Maier springs borrowed the Mopar's design cue.

I would just add some traction bars IMO. Cutting up leaf springs is not something I would want to do.

With all the work you are doing to your car, I am suprised you are not interested in modding springs. I plan on building my own spring pack soon, but there is not much about it on the web.

Yeah kinda wierd huh, I just plan on running some mid eye (i think) with some traction bars. They worked good like tiime I restored the car, I just don't want to buy some, screw them up and buy them again. I hate buying things twice. Besides I have never heard about the ride quality after doing modifications to the springs.

My issue is performance on a budget. That's why modifying the springs seem up my alley, but there's not much info as brianj5600 stated. If I can spend around $100 with some extra garage time verses spending 200+, I'm all for it. I did check around the web and mustangsunlimited.com has a set of 4 1/2 leaf "grab-a-trak" springs for about $190. Not bad compaired to Mair's at $250. I would just like to find more info on DIYS spring packs.

i have a set ive modded, not for traction, but for stiffness. i took an extra set of leaves, disassembled them, cut the main leaves equidistance between the eyes, and the end of the second leaf. i then restacked the other set of springs, using the cut one as a new second spring.i havent gotten the car back down on the ground yet, but side by side, the seem a good bit stiffer than my "control" set.

Here is some good reading on leaf spring mods. We rebuild leaf springs to get the ride height and spring rate we want. You can add several half leafs on the front half to act as a traction aid if you want.
