Legit only Drag racing question

Ok I wanted to see how many people go to there local drag racing track and do there runs with a passnger? Now this is legit racing only and not street racing. That is another story and may not put me in good terms with the Boss around here

Do they even let you have a passenger with you at the track?

You guys can talk about street racing, just don't tell us about any of the stupid **** you've done that's almost killed somebody, that's all.

I have been to two tracks locally in Ky and neither allow a passenger

I just got back from our local track and there was atleast 5 cars that had a passenger (Most of them was ricer type cars or the SRT4.) I would think this would be adding like 100-200lbs to your car, which would sux on a small liter car. Now I also wonder if that is really a safe thing to have an extra person on board I'm supposed to call the owner of the track next week about something and I think I will ask her about the passenger deal just for the heck of it.

As for street racing, that has been under review in my head these last few months. I wonder if I'm growing up or just plain scared to death of some of the kids on the streets now days We use to race on our many wide open roads that I promise you could do it all night and not see a person one. Now days they want to race you in town and on well traveled roads. So I'm wondering now days if its best I stick to the tracks and organized race events.

Racing in my area is up in Louisville for the street racing, I would say that most people now a days will go to the track so they can legeally do it and brag about it. I have done both myself and am getting away from the street version because my 7 yr old is learning about cars and I want him to do the safer legal thing. Plus I have to set the example and be a good father too.

The street racers try all of the tircks which make it unsafe like cutting into your lane and door to door by inches powerslides and all of that. Plus ther 16, 17, 18 and have not been driving long enough in my mind to be doing any type of racing. The father in me talking there. I did it when I was younger, but don't make it right.

I understand the father part...I got a two year old son my self who has already been turned on to cars and want leave my tools alone either

Around here if you run slower than 8.5 in the 1/8th you can take passenger(s).

some tracks will some wont but if it was me i wouldnt want the extra weight inless i was running in the 11s or something and who would want 2 extra guys in a 2.3 mustanst that mnight run a 16.5 with just a drive 2 extra guys that must of been a 18.00 run

My local track holds big NHRA Finals and they have what is called Friday Night Street Racing. It is a police supported event to keep the kids off the main roads and crack down on illegal street racing. It is a 1/4 mile track and they have no tree or times. The flagger usually some 16 year old throws the hands up and your off. There is a huge variety of cars and you can take 1 passenger in any car. They get the jet cars out there and wheelstanders just to play around. You can stand right next to the burnout box and walk around everything. The tech is pretty laid back, 11's need helmets and 10's need a cage. I have been in many 10 second cars including an awesome 10.2 sec twin turbo 302 91 Mustang. We get Vipers and lots of motorcycles, blown Hemi's and everthing from the saturn with a fart can spraying the nitrous to a 10 second Honduh.

The absolute best part about it is that it only cost $5 to get in and $6 to race. It has been going on for 3 years now. I think everyone should talk to their local track to see if you can get them to do something like this. It is hugely supported by the community and I assure you the track is not losing $$$ there are thousands of people every weekend with so many cars that sometimes it takes an hour or so to race. Everyone lines up in the 8-10 staging lanes and finds a race and everyone is out talking and having a great time. The gates do not open till 8pm and racing starts at 9pm and they don't close till most everyone has left (usaully 2 or later). I have on numerous occasions made at least a dozen runs in a night. I bet I have made 200+ passes in my car.

Its very helpful to someone who's never been down a track before. I've had people I didn't know ask if they could ride with me on a test and tune night.

How did you get an N/A mustang to run as fast as 16.5.

This is great but I would want a time slip The closest track to me is in a ghost town 50 miles away so cops can't support much there but all the street racers head there Friday anyways. There is a 1/8 mile that should be built by next summer here that may can get most of the street racing cleared up some.

I guess my point was not only is alot of fun but it is great for practicing as well. Say if it were your first time at the track and you wanted to learn how to drive and shift and just get the feel of the car you can do so for nearly free. Get the bugs worked out and get it tuned properly then you go out Saturday and make some timed runs at a cost of $35 I guess we are fortunate to have a program like this.

I was just messing with you there. My son is now trying to tear down his short block so we can get it diped and cleaned up. He is peobally more ancy about his engine than I am about mine and he has to wait another 9 years before he can drive it lol. Gives me plenty of time to get a car to put it in too.

I no you was and so I was joking back with ya Just think what shape that car would be once you buy it and spend 9 years of working on it If I had it all over to do I would have done the same thing when I was like 14 yrs old. I had plenty of mowing jobs etc that I could have saved some money up and bought a old car to fix up. Then when I turned 16-17 I would have a pretty nice ride to drive but I bought other stuff that I didn't need

I gave my GF a ride on the last run on Friday...I don't know what the cutoff speed is for passengers. The dragster that went 6.80@224 didn't have a passenger though

gateway international raceway allows passengers 11.99 and slower only. and is on test and tune night which is tuesday and we also have a dusk to dawn once a month "you race all night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. "it's a total blast"

I guess that is what our local track does. I just figured they wouldn't allow it nor would someone want that much dead weight on a run also.
