Lets see what you did with your door panels, if dyed, what did you use?

I dyed my door panels and arm rest black. I used duplicolor die. Well, its all coming off. I did my dash and center counsol as well and they look perfect. I would like to see what people have done with thier panels, if custom, and if dyed, what did you use and how did they hold up? Thanks

It came off cause you didn't prep it well enough..clean it till you have fadded the color off it with dish soap and vinyl and or plastic prep, then wash it again with soap and water, I did mine and 1 year later it is perfect. Prep is what gives the paint and dye its bond ability.

the dye comes off if your arm rubs on it alot. It happened in my old convertible where i dyed the interior. The plastic panels come out good if you prep them well and sand them first. vinyl panels don't come out as well. Good luck. BTW i used duplicolor dye also

I was going to re-die everything this winter, but just figured out that it will not be warm enough to do this, i need warm temps for the paint to cure. So I want to see the ideas and I can build on to them as the time goes on

DupliColor here as well, Flat Black

Prep, Prep, and Prep if it is all good it will last, wash it with a mild soap/detergent, dry it, use some grease and wax remover then scuff with a gray scuff pad commonly used for body work, wipe down with grease and wax remover a 2nd time, paint in thin coats...

yeah rick, yours came out so beautiful, Im going to wait till spring when its warm and get it done the way it should be, before I painted it when It was a litle chilly out. So I think that had some effect

I already replied to your thread in corral. I am going to put it here as well in case others want some ideas.

I used 50resto vinyl prep to clean them and then painted them with 50resto vinyl paint (1990-94 Black). They turned out great. The only problem I had with the door panels was matching the paint. The first time I ordered it, it was more of a flat black. I ran out so I ordered another can and it was really glossy and didn't match the other door panel. I called and complained and they sent me some more free of charge. They gave me the run around saying that paint varies lot to lot. I would just recommend ordering enough the first time so you don't have this problem. I haven’t had any problems with it peeling off.

I also covered the upper insert and map pocket in black suede.

I like it, but what color was it originally???? I have an 88GT with the red and black interior. I really don't like all the red. Has anybody done some color work with this color scheme to limit the amount of red....and how did it turn out?

Thanks, you can buy almost any type of material by the yard. I think I paid less than $25 and I got enough for both door panels, headliner, and shifter bezel.

I just used adhesive spray in a can and covered the old material. I also used a little hot glue on the back side where it folds over. Looks great an very easy to do. Good Luck.

I purchased some custom door panels for my 87 hb off of ebay. A little costly but worth it to me. They're re-upholstered black with a char-chrome colored pony embroidered on them. I haven't installed them yet but when I do, I will post some pics.

I did mine with a product called VHT. You have to let it Dry completely for at least a day but its been indestructable after that. I sewed a new map pocket out of leather for the bottom of the door.

I also did the glove box and the panel under the steering wheel with Krylon and adhesive promoter. No scratches on it either. As everybody else has said, preparation is key.

Thanks, I got it at JoAnn's fabric. I have to give my girlfriend credit on that because I had no idea where to find it...lol. They have every type of fabric in rolls.
