This summer i would like to replace my stock front GT brakes with 13" rotors and Cobra calipers. Buyfordracing.com has the kit for $359 with Cobra calipers, Brembo rotors, pads, and rubber lines. While this is a good deal, i kinda want to get slotted and dimpled/drilled rotors instead, and I think it would probably be wise of me to get stainless lines also. That being said, where is the best and cheapest place to get a set of decent zinc-coated slotted and dimpled/drilled rotors that, paired with the $200 i would spend on the 10th anni Cobra calipers from buyfordracing.com, would put me around the same price. I would like to spend under $400 shipped for everything.

Also, is there anything wrong with these rotors?

They are $120 shipped which means $320 with the Cobra calipers from buyfordracing.com...that leaves me with around $80 for lines, new fluid, etc. Can this be done cheaper? Any suggestions in the brake department would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:nice:

The only concern I have with buying crossdrilled rotors is whether or not they were done correctly. That's not to say the ones in that ebay link aren't a quality part, but if they're crap and fail... you have no brakes. Definitely call ahead to see if they have the calipers in stock. From what I've been seeing, everyone has the Cobra calipers on backorder. I've been looking for a couple days, and the places that don't advertise having a backorder make me nervous. I'm looking to replace my brakes with black Cobra calipers probably next week. I'm thinking of doing them at all 4 corners though, and I'm pretty sure the GT and Cobra share a common caliper in the rear, but have a different mount and larger pads, so that would make life a little easier, or at least make it easier on my wallet.

i know this doesnt really answer ur question... but i ordered the black set thru BFR.com... couldnt be happier... i DO plan on goin w/ the slotted rotors down the line, but for now, theyll do... but definitely a good choice which ever way you go... dont forget shipping as well on some things where ever u buy, weight will be a bitch... if u order from BFR.com, they sent mine DHL and the ass clowns left it right in front of my front door... couldnt even open teh screen door to get it...

You'll find when you crunch the numbers, that you simply will not be able to undercut buyfordracing's package price.

Check out stangsuspension.com for stainless lines. I've had very good luck with them, and their customer service is top notch. I went with the MM lines because I'm a sucker for a good product.

I too, pieced together my kit, but I made sure that I didn't cheap out on the rotors, as cheap sets are known to be prone to failure and premature cracking. Try to get a guarantee on the rotors, that way you'll know you're safe.

Hmm...the rotors i posted have a 90 day warrantee and full replacement on manufacturers defects...is that the kind of guarantee you mean? Or do other companies have lifetime warrantees. If i did decide to get stainless lines (which dont come on the bfr.com kit), thats another $50 making it over $400. If im going slightly over $400, there was a guy in the 4.6 section that got the bullitt calipers (loaded), dimpled and slotted rotors from rotorpros.com, and stainless lines from stangsuspension, and paid a total of $420 shipped.

The rotors I got from summit (when they were still offering them) come with a two year replacement guarantee. I've never felt like taking a risk on ebay rotors (especially if they're drilled) but some people have been lucky.

If you are thinking drilled and or slotted rotors wil improve performance they wont. Unless of course you are using the cheapest of cheap brake pads...
If you want it for looks then go right ahead, but watch out for the bad drilling of certain rotors.

yea im not sure i want drilled ones...my friend scott (raceoholic330) told me that dimpled and slotted is a lot better, and way less prone to cracks

Yea, i guess ill see when the time comes. I definately like the look of the slotted/dimpled rotors better, and if im gonna redo the brakes, i definately want something that looks nice as well as having good function. Are the Brembo rotors included in that set zinc-coated? That would be a huge decision for me because i hate when the rotors start to rust and look like ass.

Yep. Unknown by many even auto-crossers, cross-drilled is a gimmick by all means. If you want fancy looks and less surface area stopping power - buy them.

the thing about that though is that its a surface spray which will wear off as soon as the pistons on the caliper press on the rotor, its not a coating...ive seen the spray you are talking about...the zinc-coated rotors are dipped in a zinc plating, so they stay nice...

as long as you drive your car regularly, the area on the rotor that is touched by the pads should never be rusty. The inner circle, towards the hub can be painted, and since the pads never touch that area, it will stay clean for at least a year.
