I took on a second job last year as a doorman at a local irish pub. Since I started, I've been bumped up to a Bartender, which takes up alot of my time, considering my full time job is in the army.

Anyway, tonight, finishing up a 10 hour shift behind the bar serving drunken fools, I head out to my truck, fire it up, drive about 50 feet before I'm surrounded by police lights...

Cop walks up, asks me to see my license. No problem. Asks why I smell like beer, I tell him I took a few Guiness showers throughout the night due to my job. No problem. So he goes back to his car, I think all is well.

2 more police cars pull up...what the hell is happening here? Cop comes back, very intent on not making me have a good evening.

"You're a SUSPENDED driver!" he says, with a hint of pride in his voice
"Umm, no I am not" I reply.
At this point, I am dumbfounded....which then turns to amazement as he says
"You have an unpaid seatbelt ticket from April, so this truck isn't moving"

As a man who thinks before he speaks....I did everything possible to avoid telling this officer that, although this may be the law, and I am in fact under a suspended license, he should probably not be a moron about it.

"Sir, I apologize, I forgot about that ticket, and to be honest, I didn't know you could have your license suspended for such a small thing"
"It's not a small thing" he replies, "it's the law, you broke it, you've got to pay your fines"

Again, I bit my tongue.

To make an already long story short, I laughed it off, pleaded with the cop to let me at least move my car to a guarded parking lot, and cabbed home. Tomorrow is Saturday, which means I won't be getting my license reinstated until at least Monday.

Crappy luck, I must say....great way to finish a night as the only sober guy in the bar

Yeah, that's pretty lame, if you ask me. A seatbelt ticket here in Illinois isn't a moving violation, so they won't suspend you for it. They will, however suspend your license and arrest you for failing to have your emissions done on time. Tell me if that's not a bit ass backwards? When did you come home from Afghanistan? I had the impression it was after April, but it could be that I've finally lost all concept of time, working nights and all.

Nah it was before April. I'd been home for a bit at that time. Really it's screwy though....as you said, and I thought, only moving violations could suspend licenses. Apparently I was wrong haha

Either way, I just had the girlfriend drive me down to the truck, and I took it back home quietly lol

It's in my driveway, I'm happier than I was. Now I just need to get reinstated before I drive back INTO town

In my neck of the woods, a veteran would be treated with more respect then that. Dick bag cop probly washed out of the military and has a bone to pick. Hope everything turns out alright!

Going to jail over a seat belt ticket is retarded. Total waste of taxpayer money.

This is not bad at all, When got pulled over by CHP, they impounded my car for 30 days=$1579, Pay speeding ticket=$750, (there goes my new block money)

I am on probation for 3 years for driving recklessly. so any ticket i get i am paying the maximum fine, These days i get a ride to work. My license is still suspended until may of 2010!!!

So i just work on my car after i come home from work, last time i drove my car was about over month ago.

Sucks

Yeah, it definitely could have been worse, but it was just inconvenient, and ironic since I was the only sober guy around

Adam, I couldn't agree more. Considering this town is mainly government sector, I wouldn't be surprise he was a basic training drop out

Kurt, it's true. I won't be seeing jail time, but it'll cost me out of my ass to pay off the seatbelt fine plus the re-instatement fees for my license. Everyone wants a buck nowadays it seems

Wart - Probably won't follow me back here. All the MP's on this base know me for the Mustang, and generally like me. 3 of my neighbors are MP's, it all works out well while I'm at home

hollywood - THAT is ridiculous, and that just further proves Paul's point about "it could have been worse" Good luck with your situation man, makes me feel like I got off scott free

Cheers,

Aaron

Glad to see you're not just bashing the cops...kinda refreshing actually. Lot of people hate a cop..when they get busted for doing something wrong. Granted it sucks getting a ticket for 5 over, or pulled over for excess tint, but again, wrong is wrong.

Just curious, but what do you do for the Army up there? Stopped in New Foundland (St. Johns) a few weeks ago, stayed for a few days. You Canadians were great, awesome time up there..."Keith Anthony's" birthday...big block party, ton of people out, drink specials....little cold though.

hope it all works out..and cheap, too.

Just look at it as a way to clean up the problem before it got real messy. I had a cop pull me over and was going to take me to jail over a $15 dollar infraction. His superior talked him in to giving me the opportunity to correct the problem and at the time I had no idea there was a problem. Anyway had I not handled it the next week it would have wound up in collections and I would have lost my license. The lady at the desk said I would have owed over $600 and would not get my license for 90 days. I cant even remember what the infraction was, parking or something stupid.

Newfoundland is a great place! If you were here for a good time, and lots of beer, that's without a doubt the best place in Canada you could go. I do wonder who Keith Anthony is....are you sure you're not talking about Alexander Keith?

I'm in the Canadian Operational Support Command now, working at the Joint Sigs Regiment in Kingston, Ontario. It's not a bad life, although quite a bit more technical than I thought I'd be into when I first joined way back when

As for the cop issue, really, I don't mind'em. They're here for a reason, and the fact that I was sober doesn't necessarily make me above the law on a Friday night. Point is, I was driving when I shouldn't have been, and they nabbed me on it. Luckily I hadn't been informed of it, so the cop couldn't nail me with a big fine. Instead, he just told me to park the truck and not drive it. As others have said, it could have been a lot worse.

What a sack of dog turd. This is the way you treat a veteran? And such a stupid, petty violation keeps you from driving your car? I am glad I dont live there.

Aaron...yeah Alexander Keith, that is it....we were in the Delta hotel, right around the corner from Georges Street if you're familiar with the area. We all had been through there before, but we had a three day stop...beer light was on. Went to Georges, saw it was blocked off, asked some girls stadning in line and they mentioned that guy's birthday,5 dollar cover for all the bars, cheap(er) beers... we had a blast. Stayed up there on 4 occasions now, that was the best one yet. Great place.

Ahhh, yes, good ol' Keith's Birthday. That's the only beer I drink. If I were to get rich real quick, I'd send every member of the 94/95 section a case of that stuff. It's arguably the best beer in the world.

Did you know that Newfoundland has a 4 to 1 girl to guy ratio?

And they're all a little wild. (Added this for others to note)

It's pretty unfortunate, and very inconvenient, but I'll get it sorted out tomorrow afternoon. The officer, himself, wasn't very friendly about it all, but I'm sure Karma will bite him in the ass sooner or later

I think I've found the place for my bachelor party next summer. I'm looking for vegas type atmosphere without the stigma of Vegas.

Just pay the fine you fruity azz, be thankful he did not find the girl you were smuggling in the back seat.....

Luckily you were sober, could have been worse, luckily he did not tow your vehicle, luckily he did not take you downtown, he may have been a "jerk", but he could have been a bigger "jerk."

Not abnormal to see a bench warrant for a FTA result in going downtown and a tow........

I know your just venting brother, but we both know you received a "little break".....

When the heck are you finishing your car, or did I miss the engine build?
