is the hood that much in the way when you work on it? i mean the hood isn't the lightest thing in the world but it wouldn't be too hard to lift it off. I just want the hood shocks so i don't have to lift it up

I don't know what hoods you guys are running, but my Cobra R hood only weighs 26#. If you're having problems lifting that, stop modding the car and get a gym membership .

With that said, there's two reasons I didn't swap to a lift off hood. One was the fact that i usually check my oil whenever I fill the tank. I didn't want to have to set my hood on the ground everytime I get gas. Can you imagine some idiot who wasn't paying any attention driving over your 'glass hood? The other reason is I wanted to keep some security over my motor. I hate locking hood pins and the regular hood latch wouldn't do anything if the back of the hood was able to be lifted.

thats what i meant not that its heavy but it would be very akward if you ever had to do it by yourself and if it was painted i would be worried about scratching if dropped

It can be done by yourself, but as mentioned it does tend to be a pain. Even worse, it's easy to crack the hood by lifting one side and allowing the pin to **** sideways in the drilled hole.

With two people, it's cake, of course. If you're running captured style hood pins, it's even easier as each person has make shift handles.

I wouldn't recommend it on a daily driver but if its a weekend warrior I don't see why not. Chances are the car isn't gonna leave your sight if you are worried about security.

My uncle's 87 grand national gnx has a lift off hood, and its money, cause he pretty much only drives it to the strip, gets ice cream with the wife on sundays, or to a car show.

I guess it depends on the application, but I do know that wrenching on the car is super easy without a hood, especially with the way his turbo is mounted.

One thing you DO have to worry about is dogs. We were putting in new injectors at his house with the hood off on the lawn and his 140 pound rottweiler came running over to say hi... the hood that is. Baaad news, I think my uncle invented swear words.
