has anyone had a lifter actually turn sideways and destroy itsself and the cam before? how can they get out of the t bone bracket? i found this on one cylinder in mine. both lifters chewed up on sides and a huge flat spot. and from looking down you can see the cam is shot.
There is actually a write-up in Car Craft about roller cams. They said that the way an aftermarket cam manufacturer makes lift is to cut the base circle down. When that happens, the lifter drops further down into the lifter bore to follow the lobe. When it gets down too far, it comes out of the "dogbone" and can twist and shout any way it wants to.
The only thing I can think of that would do it would be a link bar type lifter like this. The problem with them is, they're expensive. I'm not even absolutely sure they'll work in a roller block though, because the lifter bores are taller and may interfere with the link bar.
