Doing a cam swap on my 87GT to a tfs 1 and was wondering if its essential that I replace the lifters...the ones I took out look fine and a new set is like 130 bucks for the FRPP but if I have to I have to

I wouldnt say you have to if you didnt have problems with the ones before. Those lifters dont go bad often. I would though anyway since you have them out considering if they are stock then they prolly need it and you take away a chance of having problems sooner than later...IMO

they are roller lifters. you should be good to go. they dont wear out like the flat hydraulic lifters.

If I have factory valve covers will I need to get taller valve covers for that cam?

Keeping your stock lifters? I know a lot of guys pick up the Fox valve covers because they have more clearance. Even with some good size roller rockers, you can usually keep them, if you remove the baffle inside.

your valve covers will be fine unless you switch to roller rockers, then like said earlier you will have to grind out the oil baffle.
