Lifting points for engine

We have a 302 in a 66 Coupe with an Edelbrock intake manifold (aluminum?) and have been advised not to use the carb attachment as the lifting points to pull the engine, too weak.

So where should we attach the engine hoist chains?

Will we need a load leveler?

I always use the accessory bolt holes in the heads...front and back and I use a load leveler since it is much easier to control the position of the engine. I have used those plates that bolt to the carb pad in the past but something about that just bothers me.

It worried me too. I'll admit I know nothing about engines..

But I have a 351 Cleveland in my garage that I bought off of a friend. It has an Edelbrock Aluminum intake. The engine hoist is attached to the carb plate..and has been hanging from the hoist that way for 8 months. I recently let the engine down and there were no problems with stripped out bolts and nothing was cracked.

Are you pulling the tranny out with the engine? Ive seen people do it many different ways. The leveler is a great asset and not too expensive either.

If you read the book "how to rebuild small block fords"..The author tells you how to properly remove an engine (at least for the time period).
