Ok heres the question. How hard would it be to put an 03 lightning engine in my 87 notch and to put the 5.0 in the lightning? reason why I ask is one of my friends has a 03 lightning he lost his job and cant make payments on the truck so the bank is coming to get it in the middle of oct and he said he'd swap me motors if it would be easy to do. if know how it could be done please let me know

It would NOT be easy. You'd have to swap all the computer stuff as well as the engine/drivetrain.

Just tell your friend to strip the lightning, lol. The bank wants a lightning, he'll give em a lightning (badge that is lol)

This can be done. I believe it was MMFF magazine who did it, with an '86 coupe. The biggest problem i remember them having is how nose heavy the car was, because that 5.4 is basically a tank. They had a picture of 2 guys picking up the back of the car off the ground with total ease because of how heavy the nose was. Aside from that, they put some crazy suspension on the back and the car was running low 10s. I havent seen any follow up on the project but they said it was heading for single digits.

Put it this way....they called the car "Frightning", and had a 5 inch cowl on it that they had to cut holes in to let the blower stick through. Oh yes....it was indeed badass...

hate to be the one to bust the bubble, but I wouldn't do it.

When the new owner the dealer sells the lightning to may find out down the road that something's not right. They'll trace it right back to your friend. If he's faced with some sort of big fine, he'll trace it back to you.

You'll have gone though hours of swapping and fabricating just to probably take it all back and on top if it pay a fine. It's not worth it.

Heck, they may even put a value on it and call it a very serious crime It can even be a felony. If the dollar amount of a theft reaches a certain point - as in petty larceny, it becomes grand theft.

Just looking out for a fellow stanger.

The "hidden" swap wouldn't work...I bet even the bank employees would even notice the swap...good luck on getting either of them even to run decent...

Well first of all i wouldnt be telling many people of your buddies plans of getting rid of the truck because too many run there mouths off sometimes which can get other people in trouble. Just make the truck "disappear" and maybe have some parts come your way. Get what i'm saying??

putting your 5.0 engine in the lightning, wouldn't be very smart. all they have to do is run the serial number on the motor. and you'll have trouble knocking on your door.

i think you might be able to get away with it. because it is still his truck for right now right? wouldnt it be his choice to mod it the way he wanted. if he decided to put 87gt seats in instead of the lightning seats he could do that right? this is just on a bigger scale

i thought when you signed a loan, you agreed not to do any major changes to car, that way the bank or lender would not lose money if the vehicle depreciated due to changes
but it would be awesome if you could pull it off

Wrong. If ordered so by the lender, any modifications made must be swapped back to the condition the truck was in when the loan was made. Mods (anything other than factory stock) actually lower the vehicle value as far as lenders are concerned, unless they have a buyer lined up for the vehicle in it's present modified condition. I am a loan officer and have had my share of repo's, I gaurantee you that I would inspect or have the vehicle inspected to detect any changes if I had the slightest notion that anything wasn't right. The bank's collateral will be worth far less and they will come after your buddy in court to recover their loss-it is basically theft. Wages would be garnished, credit would be destroyed and a criminal record would result. Bad idea. Just my $.02
