about 3 weeks ago I posted that my head lights were dimming and getting brighter as I drove. Well tonight as I was driving they completely turned off and on a few times, came back on for about a mile then flashed on and off again and then went off for about 40 seconds before coming back on again. luckily my fog lights didnt go off. I was told previously it is probably my alternator does anyone have a different opinion?

I had the same thing happen a while back. But, when it cut out, my ABS light kicked on and then everything died but the motor. I was only a block from the house and I had to keep it in 1st gear to keep it alive. Changed the alternator and battery and everything has been good since.

Well i had that problem too but it was only when i turned on the fog lights. Sometimes all the lights inside the car will flash on and off. Next time it does it turn off the fogs and see if your head lights stay on. Its a short good luck in finding it.

Did your dash lights cut out or dim as well? If your fog lights (and dash?) stayed on then I would assume the alternator might be alright, and the main headlamp switch is still ok as well.

You might want to check out your bulbs and their connections though. A while back I had a problem where it seemed like one of the headlights was going out on me. Whenever I would get to check the light it was lit up just fine though. It turns out the one was just getting really dim periodically and from inside the car it seemed almost completely out (the other side and the fogs stayed on though). It took a while for me to catch the condtion. After replacing that bulb the problem went away. I had taken it to the dealer so didn't inspect the old bulb but I'm guessing the filament~plug connection within the bulb was messed up and vibration/bumps would cause it to go in and out of whack.

fog lights and interior lights stayed on. it was both headlights not just one. no other lights came on or went off, no abs light, or check engine or nothing. all guages read normal.

Sounds like it may be a bad ground somewhere or possibly a weak fuse. A bad alternator should show up on a gauge.

Sounds like the multi-function switch in the steering column to me.

sounds like it may be a ground to me as well, There are two grounding bolts in front of both headlights that are painted green make sure that they are tightened and have good contact. I believe those ground the lights and also the gem. When I was installing my MSD i accidentally left one of those loose and it caused my lights to dim. Also do you have any amps or anything like that and you can get your alternator checked for free at most bigger car parts stores

It controls the turn signals, high beams, etc. Sometimes the contacts get corroded and make the headlights intermittent.
