Atlanta Dragway was very busy on its last night of Test and Tune for the year last night. It was also very cold.
Me and David (ga289stocker) braved the chilly temps and came away with new personal bests.

My car is still not able to hook with me nailing the throttle from the start line so I took that into account on my first 3 runs and quickly got into the gas instead of immediately flooring it. The car bogged a bit on my first 3 passes. It was strange because it had never done it before. All 3 passes were in the 11's though so I wasn't too upset.:D

My second run of the night was my best and it looked like:
R/T... -.045
60'... 1.745
330... 4.892
1/8... 7.553
MPH... 92.35
1000... 9.879
1/4... 11.878
MPH... 112.18

I backed that run up with an 11.88 on my next pass. On my final pass I decided to try nailing the throttle in hopes that it would hook. Well I spun:( pretty badly and limped to the finish line with a 1.97 60 foot and 12.24 1/4.

It was a great way to finish the season with a new personal best for me (11.87) and David (with his first 13 second pass). It just made the night when I won the $50 Gift Certificate for quickest ET in the street legal class during Power Hour!!:nice:

Now I have the winter to make a few changes to the suspension in hopes of harnessing the power a little better next year.

Keep chipping away at it.....you got alot left in your set up.

I didn't post my times but I did manage to take my car to Street tire night in September at Gateway International in IL before I got my cage completed. I showed up with my slicks and they wouldn't let me run them on street tire night so I ran a very very traction limited 11.48 @ 117MPH.... I think on slicks and now with the cage firming up the chassis, a winter gear swap (3.70 to 4.11) and a few suspension mods I'm going to hit my bottom 11.0X goal. Long winter to wait though...

I will keep chipping away at the time Washmo. It sure is fun!!
I will start by working on the suspension a little bit to improve on my 60 footers. I believe they should be a tenth or more quicker.

After that, I can't help to wonder what a larger roller cam, bigger carb, and lower gear would do for my times.

Your 11.48 is a darn quick time not on slicks.:nice: Did you run ET streets? What was your 60 foot on that pass?

I just looked at your set up and you probably know this already but your car is a low 11 car with just a few changes. (what AFR's do you have?)

Before I ring & bearinged my motor last winter and did the CAM swap I was running the XE274HR, with a 650 mighty Demon, 2500 stall and 3.70's. With the car caged on Hoosier 26" slicks I ran a best in 2005 at WFC8 of 11.28 @ 119. (1.59 60')

I think your car has at least that in it if you do just the following;

1. Lose the vac secondary carb and put a mighty demon 750 mech secondary carb on it. (My new 775 RD pulls hard and is not too big by any means) I still have my 650 mighty demon and it was a hell of good carb street/strip) Before I had the MD650 I had a holley 670 Vac secondary, this was one of the best changes i made)

2. Get some gears, at least go to 3.70's (probably appropriate with your CAM)

3. Get a set of Weld Drag lites and screw in a set of Hoosier 26X9.0X15's, you would not believe how much harder they hook than ET Streets, (dropped my 60' times by more than a.10) Don't run a 16" Et Street, you will be sorely disappointed.

4. Put a 6 point cage in it (again dropped my 60' times) Stiffening that chassis makes a world of difference)

When I went to the track that night I brought my street wheels, 16" Vintage 50's with 26X10.5X16 Et Streets, not screwed into the wheels (too nice of wheels) and keep in mind I had no cage. Didn't matter if I went off the transbrake or footbraked I could not get better than a 1.69 60' and I have video of all four passes I made and the tires were squealing and smoking through the 60' (wierd because I had never heard my ET Streets squeal on the street??) Not too mention that we marked them and they were turning on the rim a lot. We went as low as 11PSI on the tires and nothing worked. That is why I think I have to do something with my shocks, springs and maybe get a traction aid (caltracs). I know the car hooks alot harder with the hoosiers and a cage but I didn't make it back to the track to see how it would do this year.

Plus I know I am laying down more power with the new cam / carb and it leaves harder with the new stall.

That much better huh ? I guess its' time to get rid of the ET's. They are getting quite worn out.

Either way I vote for better tires dude. If you want to go for a record cool.:D If not, you GOTS to get some new tires.

This is great info Washmo!
My heads are box stock AFR185's with 60cc combustion chambers.

I also feel that the 650 vacuum carb is a restriction at this point. I originally bought it for the 302 I used to have and I think my 347 has outgrown it. I will definitely look into the 750 Mighty Demon bec. i have been really happy with my Speed Demon so far. The Mighty has no choke horn or tower right?
In GA I don't need a choke anyway. If changing the carb gives me as much power as going from the dual plane to single plane(+2.5mph) I will be super happy.

The Hoosiers dropped your 60's over a tenth!? That is one heck of an improvement. I have my MT Drag radials on a set of 15" Draglites and if I can't hook up next year I will try the Hoosiers. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

If I drop some more tenths I will be required to get a 6 point bar. It is nice to hear that you went quicker after adding it. I may not get to that point next year but who knows. I do have subframe connectors but I just have them bolted in. I will be getting them welded this winter for extra rigidity.
