locking hood pins

does anybody use locking hood pins? i have the regular pin w/ cable style but i want to lock it up some how. im wondering if because of the cowl hood i have, the hood is slanted slightly, if the locking style pins would still work and line up correctly?

you could get some really small padlocks for the current setup. i know it's not all that clean looking, but the barrel style hood locks aren't all that asthetically pleasing either

Is it possible to get those round padlocks that small? They're like a circle and the lock bit rotates around a little I think, to open it. I think they'd be the best look for the hood pins.

i dont know about those locks, still a lil bulky. how about small and simple but protects...and would be even better if i could keep my cables.

what is your objective in locking the hood? Prevent theft of parts or other? I have the Ford Racing Racing set (16700) and the cable attaches to a ring that is itself attached to the pin. The ring flips up or down and in the down position, "locks" in place.

my objectiveis to deteer theft or damage of my parts...i like the ones i have now because i like the cables(looks) do the ford ones actually lock with a key or something?
i see on the locking pins from moroso it says not to be used as only latch device...should that be followed? ive already taken my latch out and the currents pins are what hold it..and no probs. but the locking ones different?

I did a search for moroso hood pins on google and came up with this: http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/moroso_hood_pins/ it has Mr Gasket locking ones on the page, uses a cylindrical lock, not bulky but doesn't retain cables.

oops. i meant mr gasket. i must have just typed moroso cuz i saw them also.
ive been seaching around and looking for other types that lock and i havnt had much luck.

is there a way to have a release inside my cab where a cable will pull some type of mechanism to unlatch the hood? i really dont wanna have to put the stock latch back in to be able to lock my hood and keep it shut. any ideas?

for hood pins that lock with a key, those Mr. Gasket ones are the only design of that type that I have ever seen. There are other MFGs, but the idea is pretty much the same.

Hi-jack!!!!

I also got that Ford Racing hood-pin set, going to install it this week. How do you find the correct spot to cut the hole in da hood ? I've studied a lot of pictures of '69s with them, but It's still down to eye-measure. Anyone got some sort of drawing showing the correct placement and measures?

check your email. I sent you pics of where the pins should go. If you have the same holes in your radiator support as I do, simply put the pins in at about the length they will be installed. Put a dab of grease on the top of the pin and gently make contact with the hood. Where the grease spot is on your hood is where you drill your hole. Start with a small bit and then go up to a 1/2 inch bit. Close the hood back down over the hole. Put the top plate on over the top of the pin and drill your 4 little holes. It is a 20 min job tops.

**EDIT**

I did an internet search and found this article on installing hood pins. The article is for a fiberglass hood but the idea on how to mount the pins and drill the holes applies to your application as well.

I just installed the mr gasket locking hood pins. they work pretty good and are the least offensive or obtrusive out of all the kits i have seen. i have a fiberglass hood. on the highway, the 2 front corners would lift and flex. those pins fixed it. but you have to also use your stock latch. they are not designed to hold the hood closed alone.

thats my problem...i dont have the stock hood latch anymore. im going to put an electric fan in the opening soon so i will not have room for one.

i was thinking about making a latch using bike cables running to the inside of the cab and it would release a latch under the hood(for security) but i could still use the hood pins i already have. anybody know of a small, universal maybe, latch system that would work? maybe from a new car?
