Long Block suggestions for 02 GT

This summer I am planning for an engine upgrade. I have done a lot of research, but have many questions.

I (actually a local mustang shop) will be replacing the stock SOHC engine in my 2002 GT with either a Long Block or a Crate Engine.

Long Block: Aside from the long block itself, what other components will I need to purchase? (new intake or reuse my existing one, etc?) I have looked at VT, CHP, and DSS - does anyone have any opinions, recommendations?

Crate Engine: So far, SHM appears to be the front runner - what other components will I need to purchase? Does anyone have any opinions or other recommendations?

What can I expect to pay for a shop to install a Long Block or Crate Engine? How many man hours?

In addition, I am strongly considering adding a Kenne Bell SC.

While going after 400+ RWHP, what kind of transmission changes should I plan for? Just an upgraded clutch, or replace the whole thing?

In the end, I am looking to build a mild mannered daily driver with 400+ RWHP. I am not interested in a Cobra - I want to 'build up' my GT into a one of a kind bad ass sleeper.

Thanks for your help.

Look at either VT or MPH, forget the others

Well your best bet is to talk to the shop you plan on having the work done at and see. 1. how much they charge. 2. Can they tune it (if your putting a KB on at the same time) 3. If they suggest one comapny over another.
Personally I'd do a full VT setup.
Intake depends alot of people say the stocker is good to the power levels your talking about. Some on here have had clearance issues with the p51 so keep that in mind too plus it will not work with a KB.

What about the Cammer?

Has anyone heard of putting in the FRPP Cammer 5.0 in a GT? Does FRPP made the 4.6 Hiring Harness yet?

Wow I just looked up the cammer, and while a very impressive engine, is $15,000 :O The LS2 gets the same and better numbers @ >7000

go with vt...their customer service is second to none...as well as their product...

you can get a great shortblock from them for a decent price...

Im going to be making over 1000 at the wheels with one of their blocks.

400 at the wheels isnt much at all...do you plan on supercharging it?

if so...probably a kb setup will be your best bet, as it includes the intake.

more of a sleeper would be the vortec sq trim though.

either way, just make sure you go with some nice billet internals...give scott @ vt a call and let him know what you're looking for...he goes out of his way to answer any questions you may have
