I have the following right now. Shorty headers, off road H and 4 chamber flows. I am going to buy some BBK long tubes and need a matching H or X pipe. What sounds best with the flows and fits best?

I use a BBK H w/out cats. I spent almost $400 on a catted X a couple years ago (I was feeling guilty about smog) but it sounded like dog**** with the cats so I put the H back in.

The X pipe is going to give you a more raspy sound over the H pipe. I have a custom fit Flowmaster American Thunder system on my 65 EFI Mustang and it has a BBK X pipe and long tubes. It's a lot louder and more raspy than my 88 GT (Stock headers & mid pipe w/ American Thunder cat-back). It sounds awesome.

I'm also trying to make the decision between an H and an X pipe on my GT, but I love the sound of an X.

If money is an issue for you like it is for me..... You can use the h-pipe you have now by bolting on your LT's and then cutting the header end flanges off of the h-pipe and then you just bolt the muffler end of the h-pipe to the mufflers, mark where it needs to be cut by the headers to fit and then cut it and weld it.

Worked perfectly for me and it saved me from having to buy a new mid pipe.

Thanks for the replies. I have heard that the X pipe sounds more like an F1 car. Anyone else have ideas?

Tell us how you really feel.

Personally, BBKs are okay with me, especially for the $$. Which ever brand you go with, just get the x or h pipes the same brand as the headers and this will reduce fitment issues.

LOL, i don't think you can do ANYTHING to make a 302 sound like an F1 car

If you want the best, get a Dr. Gas X pipe...you'll have to weld it together because it comes in pieces, but if you want the best fit that's what you'll get, and the sound is better than MAC and a million times better than BBK.....STAY AWAY from the BBK X....no offense to anyone who has'em but they're not true X pipes and i think they sound like crud.
