I was thinking about purchasing headers and I have heard that long tubes are the best for horsepower gains. However I already have a Bassani X Pipe. This is not compatible with long tubes. But my dad's friend has a welder. So I was wondering if it would be ok to cut the Bassani X pipe to the appropriate length than weld it back together then bolt it to the long tubes? Is this feasible and if so would it sound good and would I get the same horsepower and torque gains I should with long tubes? Because the Bassani X Pipe was pretty expensive and I can't see just getting a new one. Thanks!

Talk to HairyCanary, he did this with his catted H-pipe. He didn't weld it, but cut the pipe and brought it to an exhaust shop to have the ends drawn out. I plan on doing this as well this spring.
