I haven't searched this site specifically, but I have searched a bit on Google. . .which is almost pointless depending on the returns

About the only consensus I've read is the frame can crack with the drop bracket. . .and I personally don't care for work-arounds for something that wouldn't normally fit correctly without them.

So, are there any brands of long tube headers that will fit a 68 mustang with a 289/c4 combo with factory power steering without having to modify anything?

Check ford performance applications. I have a set on a Cleveland in a 69 and they were a perfect fit, pricey but a perfect fit.

JBA makes a fine set for my 68, again they are also pricey.

There is a new tri y headers that should fit I have them in my 65 with the same engine and trans, I did the same thing and it came down to shorty's was the only ones but then found them on ebay which I checked and they do fit.

I'll check those out. Some of them long tubes are pricey! I've been playing with a gear ratio calculator, and I'm wondering if LT are even necessary? I don't plan on seriously racing the car. . .the build plan right now is for just a fun street car/weekend cruiser. With my planned 3.40 gear swap and c4, I shouldn't see north of 5000 rpm in regular driving. Hell, even "spirited" driving will probably be below 4000 rpm. Unless I plan to drive 50 mph in 1st or 80 mph in 2nd I don't think the engine will ever hit 5k. . .just me thinking out loud. . .thoughts?

MAC specifically claims they fit without a lowering bracket. . .any experience with these?

hello

hedman "elite" shorty from summit ot factory ford cast iron manifolds good to 290 hp.

comp cams xe262h but you should use ported heads no matter what you do imo.

install slightly larger chevy valves in the intake, have the intake valves back cut, pocket port the bowls and blend the valve guides. or buy gt40 heads and mill them to get your compression up

2000 rpm tci stall converter

holley or quick fuel 600 vacuum secondary carb or summit 600 with annular boost venturis.

eddy performer intake.

deck the block so the pistons are .003 below the block.

badger or trw flat top pistons but if you ever go to big valve heads thyou need pistons with bigger valve reliefs like hyper's.

with the 268. the 268 will get you around 5500 rpm

I have Hedman long tubes on my '69 302 with factory power steering that fit fine. I couldn't say for sure but I would think that they would work for you too.

I have always used Headman long tube headers ,My old 69 had a 351 W.with a 4 speed and power steering ,i had to use the ram drop bracket but nothing touched .If i can find the part number they will be going on the 69 i am building right now. Seal the collectors with a thin film of red high heat silicone and you will never have a leak. I never had a problem with the bracket or the frame cracking . I see a lot of cars that have had that bracket welded on ,and i have seen the frame crack from the welds .Good grade 8 bolts and you should not have a problem with it .
