I'm planning to get long tube headers, but are there differences in performance by brand? let's say JBA vs. Hooker? I see huge differences in price depending on coatings/finishes/etc...

No matter What brand you decide to go with get your headers coated. Also there are only certain brands that will fit automatics too. Hooker is good but you have to use there X which is an off road X. I'm sure someone else will chime in to help out.

If you searched you would know that you CANNOT run long tubes in CA, good luck smogging you car when your registration comes up.

I had the option to get mine coated (jet hot) inside and out but the guy wanted 200 fo r the job. Alot of people told me that if they are coated you won't have to worry about getting them triple coated.

A friend I met at Chicane Sport Tuning said he passed the emissions portion of the test with 2 cats and long tube headers and the guy doing it "overlooked" the visual.

I also found someone who will overlook the visual.

But in case of "worst case scenario" that I fail, I already plan to keep the stock shorties and do the modifications necessary to make it CARB legal again.

I believe Hookers and Kooks are called the best. SLP is supposed to make a nice set too. But I don't know about the automatic issues.

I apologize guys, I did a search on this subject and found out that Hooker and Mac headers fit automatic transmission-equipped Mustangs. Hopefully it is accurate information

Hookers will only allow you to run without cats. I went with SLP they are a little bit cheaper than KOOKS but they will fit the automatic and from what i've heard they are very nice. Plus if you want you can swap out the cats and put in straight pipes for when you go to the track.

On that note, don't go with Mac. I've heard of plenty of people having problems with them. Kooks and Hooker are VERY good but the SLP headers are awesome too. I'm a broke-ass college student so i'll be going with the BBK Coated LT's, which i've heard are about the only good part from that company lol, and maybe have them jet hot coated for longevity

Kooks will also let you swap out between cats and O/R pipes with their X-pipe, see?

Slp's are great. I have them and couldn't be happier. The modular design of the x-pipe is a great feature also.

I plan to have 2 cats on my car. So SLP will work with cats right?
